Personal, Social and Emotional Development |
Play co-operatively, taking turns with others. Select and use activities and resources with support. Be increasingly aware of their own feelings and those of others. Become increasingly aware of the behavioural expectations in the setting. |
Communication and Language |
Listen to others one-to-one or in small groups when conversation interests them. Begin to understand the use of key objects (e.g. what do we use to cut things?). Begin to use more complex sentences to link thoughts (e.g. because ...). Begin to use language to imagine and re-create roles and experiences in play situations. Start to experiment with letter sounds, specifically initial letter sounds) |
Physical Development |
Experiment with different ways of moving. Move freely with pleasure and confidence inside and outside the classroom. Understand that equipment and tools have to be used safely. Use a pencil and begin to hold it effectively. |
Literacy |
Enjoy rhyming and rhythmic activities. Sometimes give meaning to marks as they draw and paint. Listen to and join-in with stories and poems. Begin to develop an awareness of cursive letters. |
Mathematics |
Use some number names and number language spontaneously. Use some number names accurately in play. Recite numbers in order to 10 (continuing children to 20). Show an interest in shape and space. |
Understanding the World |
Show an interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them. Talk about significant events in their own experience. Know how to operate simple equipment – e.g. turn on a CD player. Begin to develop an interest in the natural world and participate in Forest School activities. |
Expressive Arts and Design |
Enjoy joining-in with dancing and ring games. Sing a few familiar songs. Explore the different sounds of instruments. Construct with a purpose in mind using a range of media. |
