PE Premium 2017-2018

The government has allocated schools funding to improve the provision of Sport. This gives our school the chance to enhance our level of physical activity and to promote physical fitness.

At Livingstone Primary and Nursery School, Physical Education is an integral part of our whole school life and ethos. Within P.E we are always striving to improve, particularly our healthy life styles and through competitive sporting opportunities. Each child has two timetabled sessions of P.E per week, with at least one of these sessions being taught by a specialist coach. In Key Stage 1 and the EYFS our children are also given gymnastics, fitness and multi-skill sessions. In KS2, children in both year 3 and 4 attend swimming lessons for 1 and 1/2 terms each. We also offer a range of different extra-curricular clubs, at both lunchtime and after school. This year we have added a P.E apprentice to our staff, with the aim of improving 3 key areas; less active children, healthy lifestyles and raising participation in sports.

At Livingstone School we are investing our funding into:

  • Improving healthy eating and lifestyles
  • Procuring quality assured staff qualifications and training
  • Playground equipment and new P.E equipment
  • Specialist teachers, from local secondary schools to raise the achievement of gifted and talented pupils
  • Targeting less physically active children.

Our vision with the P.E and Sports premium is to raise the participation of all pupils in Physical activity, education and School sports, regardless of ability, disability, gender, culture or social background. By effective teaching, training and providing a rounded extra-curricular timetable we aim to allow all pupils attending Livingstone to experience the benefits of joining in with physical activity, and making healthy lifestyle choices. By listening to ‘pupil voice’ we want our children to have the opportunity to be in control of their Physical Education at Livingstone and through leadership roles encourage all our children to lead healthier lifestyles.

Our aims for 2017-2018 are:

  • To maintain the high quality of teaching and coaching
  • To provide specific Physical Education training to all staff and coaches
  • Raise the number of pupils participating in school sport
  • Offer specific support to gifted pupils to help raise their achievement
  • To celebrate the enjoyment gained from participation by increasing the amount of inter and intra school competitions
  • To monitor the fitness and health of the students
  • To raise participation of pupils in extra-curricular activities to 80%
  • To raise awareness of our school sports activities to parents, the local community and external sports clubs.
  • To engage at least 15% of students in sporting leadership roles.

Our current provision:

As a school we have already employed a specialist external coaches to accompany class teachers in delivering the core curriculum of P.E to our pupils and have a successful after school programme of activities and a healthy eating breakfast club. We successfully compete in a large number of level 2 events, including football, tag rugby, athletics, cross country, Boccia and netball. Each year, we host a number of competitive and non-competitive level 1 events within our school grounds. We are linked to other schools in the local community especially East Barnet where we enter their family festival competitions. We are offering new clubs and competitions to our children including gymnastics, new age curling and basketball. We have employed a part-time P.E apprentice who is taking lunch and after school clubs, running and supporting P.E and physical activity sessions, as well as organising wake and shake activities twice a week.

What have we achieved so far?

The P.E team has attended training delivered by the borough to keep abreast of the changes and updates of all the exciting developments in the P.E Premium funds. Our participation in school sports and extra-curricular activities is the highest it has ever been at Livingstone, we have offered more competitions and clubs to keep up with the ever-growing demands from our pupils.

We attended the Bronze ambassador’s sports leadership course for our year 5 and 6 pupils, while securing the Silver games mark from the Sainsbury’s School Games. To promote leadership and confidence the school has 6 P.E sports leaders who are responsible for class P.E equipment and assisting on school competitions.

In recognition of our increasing participation in sporting activity in KS1, we were awarded the School Games Gold Mark from the Barnet partnership for school sports.   The P.E curriculum map continues to ensure all children are getting a full and varied coverage of the curriculum.  We have new equipment, new clubs up and running and the participation in sport is rising.   We are continuing to monitor the fitness levels of all the children and are targeting children who are less active to improve their fitness levels. Key stage 2 have participated in swimming sessions with an external swimming instructor and we have targeted children for additional swimming sessions to raise their competency.
