November Week 3

TBLA8A2WjPsUMe

Friday 17th November

Remembrance Sunday

We would like to say a big thank you to the four girls - Daisy, Holly, Sophia and Ruby and their families who represented Livingstone in the wreath-laying ceremony at the East Barnet War Memorial. Despite the bad weather, many people turned out to pay their respects including past pupils, their families and staff. Anyone who wishes to see the Livingstone wreath can visit the memorial in East Barnet Village.

Children in Need

This is the time of the year when the school asks for donations for many causes. Every time, we have made a request, parents/ carers have been very generous and today was no exception as we raised over £320 for Children in Need. Thank you to everyone who sent in their loose change. Collectively we managed to raise a significant sum of money which we hope will go towards improving the lives of children everywhere.

IMPACT Meetings for Parents and Carers

We would like to invite you to come and support your child/ children to see how the school teaches reading.

It is crucial that someone from your family attends as it boosts your child’s confidence and reinforces a positive attitude towards learning. This can be Mum, Dad, a Grandparent, an Aunt or Uncle... but someone please!

Nursery and Kingfisher Nursery

orl8swv0btQLrJ

In Nursery and KF Nursery this week, we spoke about the importance of kindness, friendship and sharing. We read 'The Rainbow Fish' and we used masks to role-play the story following the sequence of the events. We also created many fish with colourful, shiny scales using different media like paint, gems and play dough. We also did an experiment with Skittles and warm water and discovered how to make our own rainbows.

Keep practising the nursery rhyme 1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive at home.

Have a fun weekend!

Reception

This week Reception have been focussing on Kindness for Anti- bullying week. We have been talking about what kindness is and how we can be kind to others and to ourselves. On Wednesday, we went for a walk to Victoria park and enjoyed making ‘leaf kebabs’ and exploring the Autumn leaves. It was so much fun collecting the leaves and throwing them up in the air. In phonics this week, we learned the sounds ‘y,w,z and x’ please recap and practise using your green sounds book.

Have a lovely weekend!

achievement awards

Khloe – for always being kind to her teachers and classmates

Royce – for his amazing progress in Reception so far and for being kind.

Year 1

In Science this week we have been focusing on the weather. We went on a walk in the local area to see how the seasons are changing. We set up our own weather station outside of Year 1. For a week, we will be recording the temperature as well as the rainfall. I wonder what patterns we will see?

We continue to practise reading and writing with Set 2 and 3 sounds in phonics. We are improving our handwriting too! Please continue to read both phonics books for 10 minutes everyday to improve fluency.

In Maths, we continued our work on addition and subtraction. See if your child can show you all of the number bonds to 10.

Achievement awards this week go to George and Yashvi for their beautiful handwriting! Well done for forming your letters accurately and neatly.

Year 2

This week in Maths we have been exchanging when subtracting and we have answered word problems focusing on understanding the key words which tell us which operation we must use.

In English, we have used similes to describe the Polar Regions and looked at proof reading work to check for grammar, punctuation and spelling errors.

We have started to learn about the Polar Regions in Geography and the children have shown great enthusiasm in the topic. We have looked at the world map to identify the polar regions, discussed the oceans near there and described the climate.

Don't forget that on Tuesday at 9am we will be singing and sharing our schools from the Barnet Music Festival. Parents/ carers are welcome. There will be no read with me.

achievement awards

The award this week goes to Ben for following instructions, being a good friend and doing great work with doubles in maths.

Year 3

This week in Year 3 we have started our Christmas Show practice and we've really enjoyed it! We have worked hard as a class reading out our lines and learning the songs. We will continue to do this each week leading up to the show.

In Maths we have been working hard on subtraction with exchanging. We have all been showing our subtraction with exchanges pictorially as this has really helped us understand the concept. In English this week we began our long write on Varjak Paw. We used adjectives and conjunctions within our first paragraph to describe what Varjak looked like.

In Science, we had a really fun lesson investigating the diet of a barn owl as we've been focusing on diet for humans and animals. We practically investigated the diet by dissecting it. This we all found really fun!

Homework

This week our homework is to learn our lines for the Christmas show off by heart. We will be practicing the show each day and soon we will need to be practicing off script so please spend time learning your lines.

The first award goes to Jordan for his fantastic description in his narrative writing about Varjak Paw.

The second award goes to Renee for her excellent effort in her maths lessons when learning column subtraction with exchanging pictorially

Year 4

This week in year 4, we have been looking at the 3, 6 and 9 times table in Maths, exploring the relationship between them and how we can use known facts to support us. In English, we have started writing our Fact File about our chosen Greek God or Goddess. We have now finished exploring ancient Greece in History. Please ask them how the ancient Greek influenced modern day Britain so they can share their knowledge with you.

TTRS: 7s

Punctuation: Commas for writing lists and to separate clauses (pages 10 to 13)

Year 5

Year 5 have had a fantastic week with lots of achievements!

In English, they wrote effective diary entries and impressed us with their use of Year 5 punctuation - especially dashes.

In Maths, they used place value grids to help them multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

In Science, they thoroughly enjoyed learning about irreversible changes and how to separate mixtures.

Punctuation: pages 16 and 17 (commas for extra information)

This week's awards go to Medina for her excellent diary entries, and to Eren for improving his arithmetic score - well done!

Year 6

Year 6 have spent the week writing and editing their non- chronological reports about their own mechanical. They have all excelled in this piece of writing so I look forward to sharing a few of these with you next week.

In Maths, we have continued with fractions - fractions is a topic that the children need a firm times table knowledge to underpin the learning. Please encourage your child to go onto Times Table Rockstars at home.

In Science, the children have had a week of designing and making circuits to prove or disprove their investigation question. It has been a week of noisy afternoons as a lot of the children wanted to include buzzers in their experiments!

English - Reading - pages 20 and 21

Maths - pages 16, 17 and 18

achievement awards

This week's achievement awards go to Sina his excellent fraction work this week and Sophia for her non-chronological report on her mechanimal. Well done to you both!

Kingfisher 2

This week, we focused on doubling and halving in Maths. We learned to double by adding the same amount and by forming two equal groups, connecting it to our multiplication work. We discovered that even numbers can be halved to get a whole number and using counters, we practised creating arrays to understand factor pairs, stressing the importance of systematic work to find all factors.

In English, we completed a comprehension on our current text, 'The Day the Crayons Quit' and wrote a recount about our fantastic trip to watch ‘Minions, The Rise of Gru’, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We also explored the key features of formal letter writing, in layout, grammar, and sentence forms.

Today we enjoyed our second workshop with Chicken Shed and we're excited about our upcoming visit to perform alongside other schools at Chicken Shed Theatre!

Congratulations to:

Calvin - for using the Zones of Regulation without adult prompt and demonstrating a mature attitude.

Jacob - for demonstrating good understanding of doubling to solve maths problems.

Girls Football League

Everyone who attends football club has worked incredibly hard with Mr Madle and Mr Thomas. Some children played in our first game of the Central League against St. Johns N20 on Wednesday. It started off as a very even match and St. Johns attacked well and scored a goal, but this only spurred our children on. The game ended with a tremendous win to Livingstone with Arbel scoring five goals and Elsie scoring one.

Well done to Leah, Jaime, Arbel, Elsie, Anastasia, Sienna, Mya, Fatemah and Chloe.
