Equality Objectives
Livingstone Primary and Nursery is committed to undertaking the duties under the Equality Act 2010 to:
• eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
• advance equality of opportunity
• foster good relations
We understand the principle of the Act and the work needed to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.
Aims
Our school aims to meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty by having due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
- Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
Legislation and guidance
This document meets the requirements under the following legislation:
- The Equality Act 2010, which introduced the public sector equality duty and protects people from discrimination
- The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, which require schools to publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the public sector equality duty and to publish equality objectives

Roles and responsibilities & advancing equality:

Roles and responsibilities:
- Governing Board: Publishes equality information and objectives, reviews them at least every four years, and delegates daily monitoring to the Headteacher.
- Headteacher: Promotes understanding of equality objectives and reports progress to governors.
- Deputy Headteacher: Supports training and awareness of equality objectives.
- Staff: All staff are expected to follow this policy and help achieve its aims.
Eliminating discrimination: The school complies with the Equality Act 2010 by embedding non-discrimination in policies and regularly reminding staff and governors of their responsibilities.
Advancing equality of opportunity: The school:
- Shares annual attainment data across different groups
- Reduces barriers linked to protected characteristics (e.g. disability)
- Meets specific needs (e.g. religious considerations)
- Encourages full participation for all pupils
To support this, the school analyses data, identifies areas for improvement, and provides evidence of progress for different groups.
Livingstone Primary and Nursery School complies through clear policies and inclusive practices. Key policies include British Values, Equality, SEND, Accessibility, Behaviour and Anti-bullying, RE, and Curriculum intent.
The school promotes equality by:
- Upholding individual rights and British Values such as tolerance, respect, and liberty
- Celebrating diversity through assemblies, workshops, and world religion days
- Providing an inclusive curriculum with diverse role models across subjects
- Supporting individual needs through interventions and accessible learning opportunities
- Monitoring pupil progress across different groups to reduce inequalities
- Promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and participation in all school activities
- Ensuring the school environment and facilities are accessible
