February Week 1

Friday 2nd February

Welcome to the first addition of the Newsletter, written by the pupils of Livingstone School. The aim of this is to increase ‘Pupil Voice’ and further improve our school.

A few weeks ago, Miss Papas and Mrs Ferdenzi ran an International Day assembly to celebrate all the countries and languages in the worlds. This day was first celebrated in 1998; 20 years ago! Can you believe that Livingstone School can speak over 30 different languages? This amount really is incredible. We are really lucky to have this many cultures in our school. It was amazing to see so many traditional costumes that represent the different countries. Even the performances were informative. What an incredible family Livingstone School is! We look forward to many more assemblies in future. By Nicholas (Yr5)

Sophia, Darina and Nicholas (Yr 5) composed and conducted a questionnaire that all children from Livingstone completed.

EYFS Book Review

Gruffalo: 'The Gruffalo' is a funny tale that will keep you fascinated and wondering what will happen next.  Brychan from Reception said, “I love it. It is funny, easy to read and the book is interesting.” Some children in Year 2 said that 'The Gruffalo' is still their favourite book, which means that their love for the book has not gone.

KS1 Book Review

The Gruffalo’s Child: 'The Gruffalo’s Child' is a book that most kids love. It is a sequel to The Gruffalo and is just as funny. One kid from Year 2 said, “I like the bit where 'The Gruffalo’s Child' runs away from the mouse. It is exciting but my favourite part is when the Gruffalo is snoring.” By Kash (Yr6)

Mathletics and Bug Club

There were many mixed emotions about Bug Club by our pupils.

  • Sean thinks that the new updated version is confusing.
  • Maria likes how you can store things on the virtual library.
  • Joseph likes the wide variety of books.
  • Samira likes the quiz at the end of each book.

Other classes also had opinions on Mathletics.

  • Hattie likes how it extends your education.
  • Ashlee-Dean likes the scoring process.
  • Tarannom finds it too challenging at times.
  • Maisie (Yr2) likes the addition and subtraction sections.

Both interactive resources are given to all the children for free and help everyone get better at reading and Maths.

There is also now an opportunity for students to go to the ICT Suite on Tuesday lunchtimes at 12;:30pm if they do not have the internet.

I have heard from Mr Madle that the next free trip is to London watching a sporting event. So get practicing!

Sporting Reports

Year 5 and Year 6 girls had the opportunity to play football at Powerleague and to compete against other schools in the Borough. Despite the weather, the girls carried on playing and won every match (5 in total!). They got through to the semi-finals but it was a tough game but sadly we lost to Akiva. We still came 4th out of 18 schools and we will be competing in the Borough Finals. Great teamwork prevailed – well done to Tillie, Maddy, Mimi, Terri-Ann, Nona, Sarah C, Darina and Sophia. Written by Terri-Ann (Yr6)

The year 5 and 6 netball team played a match against Churchill School. Jack, Billy, Sophia, Elijah, Tillie, Sara and Isabella did very well and won 6-5. The goals were all very good: Jack -who scored twice-, Billy, Sara and Elijah –who also scored twice- scored all the goals. By Billy (Yr6)
