July Week 1

Friday 4th July
Playground Proms
On Tuesday morning, Livingstone hosted a Playground Prom with a special visit from the Mayor of Barnet, Danny Rich and his wife. The event featured a live classical music workshop, part of a charitable initiative that brings classical music into schools to engage pupils in this genre. The children were captivated by the musicians’ talent, and the performance was presented in a way that everyone—young and old—could enjoy.
Watch video below to get a sense of the occasion everyone loved and enjoyed. Credit to Lewis in Year 6 for a great performance with the musicians.

A Huge Thank You for the Summer Fair!

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful PTA and staff for organising such a fantastic School Summer Fair! Your hard work and dedication made it possible to host an event that brought so much joy to our pupils, families, and staff. The fair is a key part of the many events we run throughout the year that help build our strong sense of community—and with the wonderful sunny weather, made it to remember.
Special thanks go to our amazing co-chairs, Lina and Georgina, as well as Diane, Charlotte, and Stuart, who worked tirelessly over several days to bring everything together. We’re also incredibly grateful to the parents, staff, and friends of Livingstone who helped prepare for the event and supported us on the day.
We’d like to thank all the organisations that donated such generous prizes, and of course, everyone who made donations, joined the festivities, and helped make the fair such a great success.
Congratulations to Sami in Year 4, who won the main prize hamper—it was so big that the family car had to be backed into the school just to load it in!
In total, after expenses, we raised just under £3,000, with the exciting possibility of match funding from Barclays Bank, kindly arranged by Shimla Begum (Medina and Zachary’s mother). Every penny is truly appreciated and will go towards improving the school for the benefit of all Livingstone pupils.

Nursery and KFE
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside! This week Nursery and Kingfisher Nursery have been learning all about the seaside. We have certainly had the weather for it!
We have been playing, building and mark making in the sand, and we have been trying to keep cool in the water areas. We have been looking at the different plants and animals you can find at the beach and in the sea. We have learnt about the importance of keeping safe in the sun, wearing a hat, putting on sunscreen and drinking plenty of water.
Our Makaton song of the week is a simple one, 'row, row, row your boat' and we have been learning about boats and experimenting with things that float.
This week's phonics sounds are 'b' as in boot and 'f' as in flower. Please practice by noticing these sounds in the environment.
Reception
Reception have continued to practise our Graduation Show; they are learning to project their voices and be amazing performers! We also enjoyed having a visit from the Playground Prom on Tuesday. The children sat beautifully and interacted throughout the performance and were inspired by the amazing musicians.
Today we have sent home the children's lines for the Graduation show, please help them to learn them at home.
Please bring in the children's costumes. Have a great weekend!

To all of Reception Class for amazing Graduation Show rehearsals this week.
Year 1
The weather helped us to fully understand what summer feels and looks like in our science lessons. We learnt all about the signs of summer, what happens to the daylight hours and the trees around us. In Maths, we continued learning about time. The children used their imaginations in English. We listened to The Balloon Tree as inspiration to write a description of our own magical gardens. We have started guided reading as well as Spelling and Grammar in our English lessons to get the children ready for Year 2.
We look forward to our trip to Bekonscot Model Village on Tuesday. Please remember to arrive promptly, dress appropriately and bring a packed lunch.

Our achievement awards go to Gina and Riley for their excellent progress in Arithmetic. Well done you two!
Year 2
In Maths, we have started the unit: Position and Direction. We have been turning clockwise and anticlockwise looking at left and right. We have also discussed different turns: full turn, half turn, three-quarter turn and a one-quarter turn. In English, we have started reading 'George's Marvellous Medicine' which the children have loved so far. We have described the characters' feelings and actions. We have also written sentences linked to what we have read so far using conjunctions and commas for a list. We have finished Geography this week where we have compared seaside towns in the past to now and identified the British Isles using maps.
Homework:
Maths- pages 114 and 115.
This week's awards go to Tameem for his superb effort in English and Ben his detailed explanations when reasoning in Maths. Well done both of you!
Kingfisher 1
This week in Maths, we explored capacity using both standard and non-standard units of measurement. The children thoroughly enjoyed engaging in practical water- based activities, which helped them understand the concept in a fun and hands-on way.
In English, we continued reading Goodbye Mog and focused on identifying and discussing different emotions expressed in the story. Using Colourful Semantics, the children built thoughtful and expressive sentences to deepen their understanding.
A highlight of the week was our exciting trip to Aldenham Country Park. The children had a fantastic time exploring the park and participating in outdoor activities—it was a truly memorable day for everyone!
This weeks award goes to Dajjen for his improved maths skills.
Keep up the good work!
Year 3
It has been an exciting week in Year 3. The children have been really focussed in completing their assessments this week and showing a really positive attitude. In Maths, we have been extending our knowledge and vocabulary about the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. On Thursday, we visited Cuffley Adventure Centre and had the wonderful experience of low ropes obstacles and outdoor orienteering. To finish the week in Year 3 we have a session every Friday called 'Proud Fridays'. This is an opportunity for the children to share something that they have achieved or proud of outside of school. It has been great hearing the news that they have been sharing with us each week. Congratulations to Nora and Nirvani for their swimming achievements.

In English, the children are continuing to practise the grammar such as expanded noun phrases and appropriate fronted adverbials for their writing based upon 'The Firework Maker's Daughter'.
In the afternoons, they have been continuing with D&T and have created their recipe for hummus or a yogurt-based dip which they will make on Monday.

Many of our pupils also spent time visiting their new secondary schools this week as part of their transition journey. It was wonderful to hear such positive feedback and to see their excitement about the new opportunities and adventures that lie ahead.
Meanwhile, preparations for our production of Oliver! are in full swing. The children have been working hard in rehearsals, continuing to develop their singing and acting skills with great enthusiasm.

This week's award goes to all of Kingfisher 2 for their incredible hard work in their assessments. Well done!
Summer Pool Party and Enterprise Stalls
Summer Pool Party
The Summer Pool Party is taking place on Tuesday 15th July PM and pupils taking part will need to come into school ready to get wet.
This is a non-uniform day, and they will need a towel, a swimming costume or shorts and t-shirt as well as a change of clothes. They will also need some pocket money to spend if they would like to buy from the stalls. Please remember sun hats and sun cream as it is predicted to be a sunny day.
Enterprise Stalls
We are excited to share that, as part of our upcoming Pool Party, pupils in Year 5 & Year 6 will have the opportunity to run a stall during the event!
Pupils will be limited to selling 20 items and have to bring in their products into school at least 1 day before the event (Monday 14th). This will allow us to evaluate the products before they are made available for purchase.
Please note the following guidelines for the stalls:
- The product has to be made by the child/ren.
- Handmade cakes and biscuits are welcome but must be nut-free and packaged for takeaway.
- Sweets are not permitted for sale.
- Ice creams and lollies are part of the pool party experience and therefore cannot be sold at the stalls.
This decision has been made in response to feedback from our previous event.
Barnet Summer Read
Barnet Libraries are running a brand-new Barnet Summer Read over the holidays. It’s called Barnet Book Detectives, and children aged 4 to 11 years are invited to read 6 library books in order to receive rewards and some clues to solve the mystery of the ‘Book Crook’.
Sign up for Barnet Book Detectives at the library during staffed hours from Saturday 5 July, and receive a book journal packed with activities. In their Book Detectives Journal, children can log their summer reading journey, write reviews, follow a mystery trail, solve a code buster, and much more. There is also an exciting prize draw.
Mystery-themed activities for children are taking place in all our libraries over the summer, including an RAF Museum event and an opportunity to ‘Solve a WW2 Mystery’ with author Helen Peters. To find out more, pick up a Creative Communities programme from the library, or check our events online.
Parents and carers can also sign up to receive the Families eNewsletter to find out about the very latest Barnet Libraries book news and events.
