June Week 1

Friday 05th June

Dear Parents / Carers,

I am happy to announce that the first week of re-opening the school has been very successful and we are confident that with one or two slight adjustments, the school was well prepared for the re-opening.

Now that the lockdown is being relaxed, more pupils are coming under key worker status so we are looking to expand our provision for these pupils. We are also having to look how we can meet the needs of pupils at risk of falling substantially behind in their work and not meeting National Expectations. The teachers have continued to work hard producing resources and they have been tracking the work being produced online, but because of the time away from school, we have noticed quite variable outcomes for our some pupils. Due to their learning needs and home circumstances, some of our pupils have not been able to access what has been made available to them.  Even with the distribution of laptops and copies of worksheets, it has not always been possible for these pupils to access sufficient differentiated lessons, to enable them to make progress.  For this reason we will be contacting some families to offer additional support and possibly offer school places under the ‘vulnerable’ category.

In the meantime teachers are still working at home preparing learning resources, so please ensure that all pupils are keeping up with their work even if they are attending school and let the teachers know if you have concerns.

Parents of children with siblings who have been allocated a place in Reception 20-21 will be contacted in the next couple of weeks to begin the preparations for new starters. We haven’t forgotten you but we are preparing the materials for the induction to take into account social distancing and the impact of COVID 19. More information will follow.

For Parents of pupils in Nur, Rec, Yr 1 and Yr6 who are eligible for a place but have opted to keep their child/ren at home for the first week, they must contact the school if they would like to take up their place in the second week. Requests can be made directly to the class teachers via the VLE, by sending an email or by leaving a message on the school answer machine. A member of staff will contact the parents/carers to arrange a start date.

This week in the newsletter, we have included some pictures of the school with social distancing in action, to show that everything possible has been done to keep everyone safe. Thank you to every member of team who has worked hard to achieve this whether at home or in school. We look forward to next week with a sense of hope of things getting back to some normality.

To quote Catherine Baker, our parent governor:

I think I had spent so much time telling him (Jim) how much things would change, he was relieved to see how much was still familiar.

He had a fab 2 days. Making up new socially distanced playground games, English lessons, long jump with Mr Thomas and circle time...... (As well as a fire alarm)

Each afternoon he came home happy, sweaty, and dirty and exhausted.... the perfect day.

Stay Safe,
