October Week 1

Friday 5th October

Attendance and Punctuality

Kingfisher 1 Local Visit

Pupils had a great time shopping at the local Sainsbury’s last week. They walked independently from the school to East Barnet. They had experiences of using money in the shop, reading and writing lists.  They even got Mrs Ferdenzi’s shopping!

The Great Fire of London

Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London. Yesterday we filled up buckets of water and threw the water over chalk marks on a wall acting out how people stopped the Great Fire of London from spreading in 1666. The children found this very hard and tiring, running to refill the buckets again and again. We learnt how difficult it was for the people of London at the time and how having a fire service now has improved our lives greatly.

Parent Representation Meeting

Last week, parent representatives from each class met Mrs Phelan to talk about important matters from around the school. The main topics that were discussed were homework, school dinners, class trips and road safety. We are working hard together to improve all we do.

The parent reps are:

Niki David - Nursery and Year 6

Lina Cavozzi – Year 1

Shelly Farmer – Year 1 and Kingfisher 1

Helene Anido - Year 2

Nickie Allen – Year 3

Teresa Osman – Year 4F

Mariah Kallas – Year 4SB

Nina Kornhauser – Year 5S

Evan Evagoras – Kingfisher 2

Kate Orr – Year 5BB

Phonics INSET Day

On Monday, all the staff were treated to ‘Read Write Inc’ Training. This is a new phonics programme that we are implementing in Nursery, Reception, KF1 and Year 1. If you hear the children talk about Fred Frog, they are not going bonkers, they are practising their sounds. Two parent governors also attended the training.

Impact in learning

Thank you to all the parents that attended the meetings in school. These sessions are designed to help parents understand the curriculum and show them the methods that we use in school. The parents learned about adverbial phrases, subordinate clauses and colons. In Maths, they were shown the concrete, pictorial and abstract methods. Well done to all involved!
