Healthy Mid-Morning Snacks Reminder
We understand that some pupils may feel hungry mid- morning. However, it’s important to balance this with the nutritional value of the snacks being brought into school.
Please note that cereal bars, biscuits, and crisps are not suitable due to their high sugar and fat content.
Did you know?
Half of UK children consume the equivalent of five litres of cooking oil per year through a daily crisp habit.
Most cereal bars contain more sugar than a can of cola, despite being marketed as healthy. Many cereal bars were high in sugar, with some containing over 30% sugar by weight.
These snacks contribute to unhealthy eating habits and do not always support the energy and focus children need during the school day.
Fruit for Key Stage 2 Pupils
To support healthy snacking, we continue to provide fresh fruit daily to Key Stage 2 classes.
If you would like your child to receive fruit, we kindly ask for a donation of £8.00 for this term to help cover the cost.
Thank you for supporting our commitment to pupil well- being.
Harvest Festival and Monsters Ball
Year 4 Harvest Assembly -Thursday 16th October 9:00 am
As part of our annual tradition, Year 4 will be leading the Harvest Assembly.
We invite all families from all year groups to contribute non- perishable food items or toiletries, which will be donated to local charities supporting vulnerable members of our community.
Your generosity truly makes a difference. Please remember to send in your donations on the day of the assembly.
Year 4 Parents/Carers are welcome to attend the assembly to watch their child.
Monsters' Ball
We’re preparing and looking forward to the upcoming Monsters' Ball.
If you haven't yet, there is still time to make payment if you would like your child to attend this year's spooky party! You can do this via Arbor under your 'PTA' account.
Parents/Carers, if you're able to lend a hand, please contact our PTA Co-Chairs, Lina Cavozzi and Georgina Mace, to let them know your availability.
Thank you for your support — let’s make this a spooktacular celebration!
Nursery
A very busy week in Nursery celebrating Black History Month!
This week, we have been exploring the story “Baby Goes to Market” by Atinuke. The children have enjoyed counting to five as we added all the things Baby collected in the basket and acting out parts of the story through role play.
We’ve also welcomed our final new friends to the nursery and have been learning our daily routines and class rules together. Our current focus is on developing independence, especially in dressing ourselves and using the toilet, so please continue to encourage these skills at home.
In Art, we’ve been inspired by the season! The children have used fruits, conkers, and acorns to create beautiful patterns, and we also baked some delicious sugar-free banana muffins.
Reminders
Please bring your child’s blue book bag every Tuesday, along with their reading diary and the book that needs changing.
If you would like to sign up for our “Mystery Reader” Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m., please speak to a member of staff.
Kingfisher Nursery and Bluebirds
Another busy week has seen us entering into Black History Month and we have been exploring the book 'Baby goes to Market.' An excellent book for learning about different cultures, counting and food.
We have also continued with all things autumnal, including art and sensory play and exploration.
Reception
Reception have been talking about themselves and their families this week. We have been learning all about each other and are enjoying watching our family gallery grow! We have been painting self-portraits and reading books about kind hands, feet and words and understanding why it is important to have rules. We have managed to get 2 marbles in the jar so far for great team work and fantastic behaviour as a class so well done Reception! Keep sending in family photos and Autumn treasure which is building our love nature table. Thank you!
Year 1
In Maths, we have been comparing numbers using the symbols <, >, and =, and using language such as more/ greater than, less/smaller than, and equal to. In Phonics, we are continuing with the Read Write Inc. scheme. Our foundation subject this week has been Computing, where we learnt about different digital devices and discussed how to stay safe online. In PSHE, we reflected on what we like and what some of our strengths are. We also wrote and gave compliments to our friends and talked about what they are good at.
Homework
Maths- pages 13 and 14.
This week's certifiates go to Carter for always contributing and putting his hand up and Emma for her hard work in Phonics. Well done!
Year 2
What a busy week we have had in Year 2! In Maths, we have been looking at number bonds. We have revised number bonds to 10 and 20, and we are learning about number bonds to 100 and related facts (e.g. 3 + 7 = 10, so 30 + 70 = 100). In English, we have begun our next module called 'The Wish'. In this story, a unicorn offers a character called Ben one wish, however, Ben knows that he, his wife and his mother all need something different. How should he choose what to wish for? In afternoons, we have had great fun working with clay in Art; the children have designed and made house tiles. In PSHE, we discussed how we spend, save and share money. Finally, the week finished with a very exciting workshop all about 'The Great Fire of London'.
Library next week
Next week, due to the Monsters' Ball on Friday 17th, the children will have their Library session and change library books on Wednesday 15th October so please ensure book bags are in school. Many thanks.
Homework (due in Wednesday 15th October)
Maths - pages 17 and 18 (page 19 an as optional extra challenge)
English - page 11

Maths:
This week, we have been exploring 3D shapes. The children learned to name a variety of 3D shapes and had fun recognising them in everyday objects around the classroom. It was great to see them making connections between shapes and real-life items.
English:
In English, we continued our work on instructions. The children followed step-by-step instructions to make popcorn, cheese sandwiches, and fruit salad. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in these practical activities—and of course, tasting their delicious creations afterwards!

This week's award goes to Levi for his lovely participation in class activities.
Well done Levi!
Year 3
To conclude our Stone Age topic, we prepared group presentations on how clothing, homes, ways-of-life and tools changed from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. They were creative and informative! We began our Science topic on 'animals including humans'. We learnt about vertebrates and invertebrates, and classified animals accordingly. Ask them if they can tell you which animals have an endoskeleton, exoskeleton or hydrostatic skeleton. We finished our Big Write in English and we are so proud of the pupil’s published work inspired by The Bear and The Piano. In Maths, we continue to work practically as we add and subtract. Some of us are learning how to exchange one ten for ten ones or one hundred for ten tens. Keep up the hard work!
Homework:
Year 3 Maths Practice Journal: p.17-18 (page 19 is optional)
Year 3 Comprehension p. 18 - 19
A gentle reminder to please bring in your child’s library and Accelerated Reading books on Fridays so they can be changed. All other homework comes in on a Wednesday and goes home on a Friday. Passwords for TT Rockstars are in their reading diaries.
As part of our preparation for writing
The first achievement awards goes to Marina for her brilliant narrative inspired by The Bear and The Piano. The second achievement award goes to Benji for his excellent scientific knowledge on different types of skeletons. Well done you two!
Year 4
In Maths, Year 4 have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000, and addition and subtraction of 10, 100 and 1000 of a given number. In English, the children have been exploring our new writing stimulus ‘Into the Forest’ and considering the feelings of the main characters to prepare for writing an emotive letter in role.
In RE, the children have been exploring and talking about faith and miracles. This has encouraged some deep-thinking discussions where the children shared their points of view and explained why they felt that way. In PSHE, safer relationships was our topic where the children were given scenarios that could happen such as online chats with a stranger or a stranger offering them sweets, and they thought about how to deal with that situation and we discussed all of their ideas as a class.
Homework
Maths - pages 14, 17 and 18.
Punctuation - pages 20 and 21
Times Table sheet

This week's achievement awards go to Arianna O for her insight into the characters feelings in English, and Ahmet for his hard work in Maths. Well done to you both!
Year 5
This week in Maths, the children learned written and mental methods of adding and subtracting.
In English, we are preparing for our next writing unit: writing the true version of fairytales from the villains' point-of-view. They read various alternative fairytales and enjoyed doing drama as the characters. They also analysed a WAGOLL* where they understood that they want the reader to believe they are innocent.
In the afternoons they've been computer developers, using Scratch to code algorithms for a scene where two sprites tell jokes. They had to decompose their code into smaller parts and debug to get the timings correct. Please see some photos above from our trip to study the River Lea.
Homework due by Weds 15th Oct
Maths: pages 17 and 18 (addition and subtraction)
Grammar: pages 8 and 9 (adjectives and adverbs)
