September Week 1

Friday 10th September

Unbelievably, time is passing in a flash and we have just completed week 2 of the academic year. The pupils who are new to us in Reception and Nursery have all settled in well and next week we welcome our second group of Reception pupils as well as more newcomers to the Nursery.

Please check the diary dates and look out for texts reminding parents/carers of the dates and times of the ' Meet the Teacher' for each class. This is a useful meeting as it gives an opportunity for parents/carers to meet the new teaching team and learn about the curriculum for that year group. Parent Consultation dates will be added to the calendar after these meetings have taken place.

Year 6 Leavers Prom

NuoJ8k5x_JjT74

As promised, Year 6B and pupils from our other two Year 6 classes who missed the end of year event got to have their prom yesterday evening. It was a wonderful night that was enjoyed by everyone involved. A big thank you to everyone in the Year 6 teaching teams and all the members of staff who contributed to making this a memorable event. We said goodbye and now look forward to hearing good news about them in the next phase of their lives at secondary school.

Good luck to everyone and we wish them well!

Punctuality

Punctuality is one of the keys to learning, so it is important that pupils arrive on time everyday. Pupils from Reception to Year 6 need to be in class at 8.45 am ready for the register at 8.50 am, so it is very important that pupils get to school on time.

However, whilst we value pupils coming in on time, we may contact parents/carers of pupils who travel independently and arrive too early to adjust their travel times or to enrol them in to breakfast club as an alternative to avoid groups of pupils outside the school gates.

Luca drew an amazing set of pictures, all about the sea! He included a shark, a whale, an octopus and a boat - and he could name everything he drew. Great work, Luca!

Ben is painting a beautiful butterfly. He is making sure he paints the same pattern on each wing because he knows it must be symmetrical. Excellent work, Ben!

It has been a very busy week in Kingfisher Nursery and a pleasure to welcome back our returning pupils as well as meet the new members of our class. The children have been settling in beautifully and exploring the indoor and outdoor learning spaces and having lots of fun!

We have made the most of the lovely sunny days and spent lots of time in the playground and the outdoor classroom. The children have also enjoyed letting off steam in soft play and keeping cool in the pond area.

A fabulous first full week, well done everyone!

This week's awards go to Phoebe for settling in to Reception brilliantly and Jack for always following instructions and doing the right thing.

Year 1

What a fantastic first full week in Year 1! The children have enjoyed exploring how to sort objects in a variety of ways and count them accurately in Maths lessons. We are learning new sounds and reading challenging books in our Phonics sessions. In the afternoons, we have based our PSHE sessions on The Colour Monster and learnt what makes us happy, sad, scared, angry and calm. We are also developing our PE skills in gymnastics by balancing on thin beams, climbing the ropes, jumping off the apparatus and exploring different types of rolls. Welcome back Year 1! Keep up the great work!

The first achievement award goes to Musa for his brilliant blending in phonics. The second achievement award goes to Lexie for showing excellent upper body strength, balancing, rolling and jumping skills in PE.

Year 2

ear 2 have had a wonderful first week back at school. They have really impressed us with their positive attitude and hard work already! In maths we have started work on tens and ones and have been using many practical resources to help us. We have been showing numbers in many different representations with dienes, numicon and tens frames and the children have great knowledge of this.

In the afternoons we have started with PHSE focusing on our likes, dislike and how to deal with different situations. This week we all made glitter bottles and discussed how these can be used in different situations to calm down when we are feeling sad, angry or upset. We all really enjoyed shaking the bottles and watching the glitter float to the top or bottom!

Keep up the great work Y2 and we look forward to meeting parents/carers on Monday 20th for meet the teacher.

This weeks achievements go to Eva and Ryan for always trying their best and having such a positive attitude towards their work.

Kingfisher 1

Kingfisher 1 have had a brilliant week. We have welcomed our new reception pupils into KF1 and all our pupils have settled well, they have worked hard and shown us how excited they are to be back at school.

In Maths, pupils worked on counting, number recognition and use of resources to represent numbers. Pupils used Numicon to make their own number lines and played counting games.

In English, pupils explored our 'All About Me' theme. We looked at our faces in mirrors to identify and label different facial features. We continued by looking at different parts of our body through songs and games. We finished by looking at our houses and where we live. We learnt that we are all unique in our own way!

We are looking forward to another wonderful year in Kingfisher 1!

This week's Kingfisher 1 achievement award goes to our Reception pupils for a wonderful week. They have confidently explored different elements of learning throughout the week and have come to school with excitement and enthusiasm to learn!

Year 3

Year 3 have settled in incredibly well and we are very impressed with their attitude and behaviour.

This week the children have worked very hard completing a range of assessments in Maths and English. We have spent our afternoons focusing on PSHE. Together, we have spent time discussing why it is important to treat each other with respect and how we can do the right thing in the classroom and outside. We even made a display to explain how we can control our eruptions based on the book 'My Mouth is a Volcano.'

Year 5

The children in Year 5 have had a brilliant first week back, impressing myself and Mr Thomas with their hard work, behaviour and personality.

They completed their start-of-year assessments and began learning about alternative tellings of traditional fairy-tales from the villains' points of view. In PSHE, they learned about different types of relationships and how to deal with and resolve problems; they also learned about discrimination and how to deal with it if they witness or experience it.

Please can I remind parents that our trip to Lea Valley Park is on the 23rd September. If you haven't given permission and paid for your child to go, please can you do so - thank you!

This week's awards go to Qamarzada for contributing ideas in lessons, and to Katerina for her explanation when solving a difficult Maths problem - well done, you two!

Year 6

Year 6 have had a very positive start to the new school year! They have completed their assessments and have impressed us with their good attitudes for learning. They have also demonstrated that they are keen historians by asking many thought-provoking questions in our first History topic - The Victorians.

Kingfisher 2

This first full week back has been great! KF2 welcomed George, Calvin and Mario as they enter KS2 and they have been superstars all week, learning the KF2 way and working hard!

The older boys have been equally fabulous, making sure that they are being looked after and being great role models for behaviour and attitude.

The classroom is slowly coming together and the boys helped to create a lovely display which brightens the room and helps us to get to know each other too!

This weeks achievement award goes to the whole of KF2 for settling back into the classroom well, being ready to learn and showing patience.

Nightingales

The children in Nightingales have had a brilliant start to the year. They have completed their start-of-year assessments and have impressed us with how much they have remembered.

In Maths we have started looking at place value and in English we have completed some writing about our Summer holidays. We are really looking forward to the year ahead.

This week's award is for all the Nightingale children for an excellent beginning to the new year.

Can You Help?

Please can you collect and send in clean plastic bottle tops to support an art project that Year 6 are doing with Mr Sudbury.

Miss Nicholson would really appreciate donations of any unwanted sensory toys that are in good condition for Kingfisher Nursery pupils. Toys that have lights, make noises and/or different textures would be ideal.
