April Week 3

fjTyV6rm0Xur1s

Friday 25th April

DfE Filming at Livingstone

CABIN Club will be hosting a film crew from the Department of Education next Tuesday. Our school was chosen after Mrs. Armstrong completed a questionnaire regarding the services we provide and her role as an Afterschool Club Coordinator. The DfE will be interviewing Mrs Armstrong and filming our facilities, some of the activities such as Ball and Field Games Club.

If your child is attending Cabin Club or Ball and Field Games Club next Tuesday, they could be part of the film but only if we have received your completed consent form.

Like all our Afterschool Coordinators, Mrs. Armstrong is fantastic at her job. The film is intended to be used to promote this role across the country.

This weekend, she will be getting her outfit ready and having her hair and make-up done especially for the filming—only joking!

We hope to see her on screens soon......!

Nursery and KFE

Our Nursery and KFE children have returned to school very excited to see their friends and meet some new friends that have joined us this week. We have been discussing the life cycle of a butterfly and basic needs of animals. The children fed our classroom 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle with various fruit and other types of food learning new vocabulary, practising using full sentences and counting e.g. The caterpillar is eating three plums.'

They have enjoyed the outdoor area planting different types of beans and played balancing and skipping games.

We have also started our Read Write Inc. phonics programme for Nursery and this week's sound was /m/ (Maisie, Mountain, Mountain). You will be getting a copy of the sounds and the rhymes to practise at home.

Please sign up for our summer term Mystery Reader (Tuesdays at 2:30pm) by talking to a member of staff or emailing the office with the date you are available.

Reception

Reception have had a lovely first week back, getting back to all of the learning and routines that they know so well. They were excited to read a well-known traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs' which has inspired them to build, write and role play as different characters this week and we will continue to use it as stimulus for the next couple of weeks.

The children were very excited to get back to the newly improved pond area and had lots of fun spotting more signs of spring and discovering wildlife.

We are excited for a lovely Summer term ahead!

Year 1

Welcome back to the Summer Term, Year 1. We were very excited to begin our history topic on British monarchs. The children learnt all about the monarch’s orb, sceptre and crown. We also placed significant monarchs on a timeline.

In maths, we are learning about arrays. The children spotted arrays in the world around them – chocolate boxes, egg cartons and even our class mat. We are starting to learn how to do repeated addition using the rows and columns in arrays.

The children loved reading 'Billy’s Bucket' in our English lessons. They acted out what sea creatures they could find in their own magic buckets and planned their writing for next week. Some of us are in new phonics groups as well, and we are really focusing on Set 3 sounds as well as improving our fluency.

Achievement awards go to Mayia and Adam for their excellent work in history. They placed significant monarchs on the timeline and even remembered important facts about them. Well done you two!

Year 2

Year 2 have had a great first week back. We started with a trip to the Transport Museum to consolidate everything we have learnt in Geography and History. The children were fabulous and thoroughly enjoyed looking at past vehicles and took part in an interactive workshop where we got to go inside some of the older buses and trams.

Kingfisher 1

We've had a lovely first week back at school and have really enjoyed hearing all the children's exciting holiday news.

This week in maths, we've been learning how to add groups of 2's. The children used a variety of resources to group objects in twos and practised adding them together. It's been great to see their confidence grow with this skill.

In English, we've been reading 'The Very Busy Spider' by Eric Carle. The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and learning about how spiders spin their webs. They explored the story through role play and used colourful semantics to build sentences - fantastic work all around!

This week's award goes to Sergio for his positive attitude and good progress in maths and reading.

Well done Sergio!

Year 3

Year 3 have returned to school refreshed and rearing to go. This week we have been exploring how to use ICT for presenting information and how to effectively research online.

In Maths, we started the week with learning how to read different intervals on measuring jugs and estimate capacity. Many of the children were able to make practical real-life links to when we need to know the capacity/volume of liquids. Hopefully we will link it to our English Book - 'Gregory Cool' at the end of term. We started reading 'Gregory Cool' - a story about a boy who travels (by himself) to Tobago to meet his grandparents for the first time and explored his thoughts and feelings when he first arrived.

We can't wait for what we will be learning next week!

Year 6

In maths this week, we’ve continued our work on statistics, with a particular focus on reading, interpreting, and creating pie charts.

In English, we’ve been revisiting word classes, key grammatical terms, and punctuation, which the children have found helpful and engaging.

In our afternoon geography sessions, we’ve begun exploring the continent of South America and its rainforests. We’ve also started learning about how different biomes and climate zones affect rainforests around the world.

Next week, the children will be taking their Mock SATs. These practice tests will mirror the conditions of the real assessments, helping them become familiar with the process and what to expect. A little and often approach to revision (if you like) is ideal, and just as important is making sure they are relaxed and get plenty of rest.

Homework:

Maths - Arithmetic (fractions)

SPaG - mixed questions

achievement

This week's achievement awards go to Elia for her excellent work in geography and to Gino for his improved attitude to learning. Well done!
