July Week 2

Goodbye to Year 6

Friday 14th July 2023

The journey through Reception to Year 6 has been full of surprises, ups and downs but we have loved every second of it. The years have passed by so quickly and now we are nearly in secondary school! Some of us are going to part ways and some of us will still see each other but we will always keep our memories with us.

In Reception, we did the chicken dance (an old Livingstone tradition!)

In Year 1, we had our first snow together at school and Miss Gomes even let us have a little snowball fight!

In Year 2, we went to the fire station and got to stay there all day!

In Year 3, we went to Lea Valley and got to sit in a long boat from the Stone Age times!

In Year 4, this was Covid so we experienced online learning and had 2 first days!

In Year 5, Mrs Cockburn taught us Mrs Speed's 'Happy Birthday' song and we went to the Golden Hind as a trip to learn about the Tudors!

In Year 6, we had loads of cool trips together and had a whole week together as a class away from home at the Isle of Wight, PGL!

We will remember all these memories our whole life and we just want to thank everyone who supported us throughout this journey and made this experience incredible.

Thank you to all the staff at Livingstone and our parents for putting up with us and making this journey how it is now!

We are so happy to announce that Livingstone have been awarded the Gold School Games Mark for PE....again! A lot of hard work is put into gaining this and there is a big criterion we have to meet in order to receive it.

A special shout out goes out to Miss Fairley, who not only currently teaches Year 2 but coordinates everything PE for all year groups and made sure we were ticking all the boxes to meet the criteria. Her passion for the subject never fades!

We are really proud of our Livingstone Family. Everyone in the PE team as well as staff, pupils and parents have worked very hard.

Livingstone Girls vs Foulds Final

On 16th June, the girls football team had a league final against Foulds! Because it was very hot, we had 4 quarters instead of 1 half time so we could have water breaks. The match was very difficult, and it was very even between both teams. The first quarter was very hard but we kept the ball in their half as much as possible. The second quarter was tight but unexpectedly Kaitlin managed to get the ball from the halfway line and decided to shoot. After that, we swapped ends and kept our composure, but Foulds were trying their best to score a goal and took many shots which our amazing keeper (Geethesri) saved.

We are very thankful of all the support. Thank you to parents, pupils, teachers, the boys who helped us train and most importantly...OUR FOOTBALL COACHES!!!

We were very lucky to have all the support there from Livingstone. It was a very difficult match but we ended up beating them 1-0 with an amazing goal scored by Kaitlin who scored from the halfway line!!!

Forget Manchester City, Livingstone win the Girls treble in the John King Cup Final!

qrjWaiM0BMHykD

On 5th July, a group of Years 5 and 6 took part in a football final against Foulds Primary School. Since we had played them twice before, we already knew how they played and that they were really good.

The match started off quite rough for Livingstone, as Foulds had more possession of the ball but in the second half we knew what we were doing. The match ended 0 - 0 and had to go into extra time which was ten minutes long. It carried on to penalties. We took 5 penalties and Foulds took 5 and the score was 3 - 3. Foulds took their 4th penalty and our amazing keeper Geethesri made a wonderful save. When it was our go, Katerina stepped up to the spot and.....SCORED!!!! WE WON THE JOHN KING CUP and had got the treble against Fouds!

Well done to Katerina, Geethesri, Catherine, Kaitlin, Chloe, Lois, Hattie, Arbel and Diya who played incredibly well. A huge thank you goes to Mr Thomas, Ms Fairley and Mr Madle for all the support and amazing coaching!!!

VICTORY at Copthall

41 pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed in the Barnet athletics competition called Copthall. In the morning, the pupils competed in field events and in the afternoon they had track events. We did so well and won lots of events like tug of war and relay. It was such a fun day and everyone did so well whether they came first or last. They should be extremely proud of themselves and everyone contributed to the victory. On the overall score, in first Livingstone with a whopping 270 points! In second was Holy Trinity with 227 points and in third it was a tie between St Vincents and St Johns N20 and it was very close with 220. But Livingstone absolutely battered every other school by about 53 points.

Year 1 Lea Valley Trip

On Thursday 22nd June, Year 1 went to Lea Valley and had an awesome time together! They went on tea cup rides, and they loved it. The children got to go on a bouncy castle, play with Lego and even got to stroke the swans! They also got to see monkeys, bunnies, pigs, deers, meercats and fed them meal worms. A child told me 'I loved the trip and I would definitely go again'. They rated it a 10/10 because they saw very cute bunnies!!!

Thank you to all the staff who took them here - it was an awesome day!

Barnet Music Festival

Our school is incredibly lucky to have a Year 5 choir. All of the children in it have worked really hard for months to make it to the Music Festival. Mrs Margetts has been a brilliant singing teacher and worked hard to support us in our musical journey.

It was a great experience to stand on the stage and have thousands of people watching you sing the songs. The children made an amazing effort singing every song, especially our choice of song 'Colours of the Wind'. I am sure everyone who came out of the Arts Depot had a smile on their face.

Year 2 Seaside Trip

Year 2 had an amazing time by the seaside!

They started their journey in the morning, when they got to school; they did all the necessary things before going on their very fun trip. They went to Shoeburyness which took them about 1 hour and 14 minutes. When they arrived to the seaside, they got all their equipment and then started walking to the sand and sea. When they finally got to the seaside, the pupils got their spades and buckets; The unexpected happened... Most of the kids from Year two found crabs!

After they ate their packed lunch and had a bit more fun by the sea. They got to pack up, and go get ice cream! Everyone was very excited to get ice cream. After a long day by the sea, they travelled back to school safely.

Year 6 Heart Dissection

On 27th June, Year 6 became scientists and dissected a lambs heart in pairs and identified the four different chambers of the heart, blood vessels and many other things that we would find inside our heart.

We where given different instructions to follow so they could cut inside the heart but not damage certain parts. We discovered the heartstrings, aorta and the Vena Cava. After we were given a chance to cut interesting things and discover the rest of the areas of the lambs heart.

Well done to Year 6 for identifying and dissecting the lambs heart --^_^--

Summer Barbecue

This years Summer Party and Barbecue was a massive success and it turned out better than planned. There were lots of fun games to play and it was an amazing experience for the children and visitors that came to take part. The food was immaculate and everyone enjoyed it, we did a great job! Although it started raining, that didn't stop us from having the time of our lives. There was so much to do and everyone kept it entertaining for the pupils an adults there. The choir performed some incredible pieces and we even got to do a big karaoke! Everyone was getting lucky at the tombola some people got loads of sweets to take home! There was even a station where you could splash Mr Sudbury by splashing him with wet sponges!

Livingstone has been an amazing experience for me and the rest of my class. By the time you read this I will be in my last week at Livingstone and that feels awful to say. As much as we want to move on we love Livingstone and don't want to leave. I have made so many memories that will last a lifetime and I dread to say goodbye. Overall it was amazing!

Kew Gardens

On 4th July, Year 6 went on a trip to Kew Gardens to help them with there Geography topic, studying the Amazon. Year 6 had a long journey to get there as we had to go to South London.

Once they entered the gardens they went to the Palm House where they looked at many interesting plants, then had a look at the other greenhouses. After that they climbed the treetop walkway which is a high place where you can walk around and look at the canopy.

Year 6 had a great time at Kew.

KF1 had an amazing time at the farm!

Reception Graduation

Reception had a great graduation assembly because they will be going into Year 1 very soon. They have had an amazing time in Reception: having the chicks, stick insects and a lot of phonics. In the assembly, they all wore different costumes, did the traditional chicken dance and they all had different lines which were spoken beautifully. They can't wait to go to Year 1 and learn new things. They had a very fun year in Reception.

George and Jack are Football Fantastic!

George has won Player of the Year 2023 for his Football Club, Omonia. He is so committed and passionate about Football and has benefitted from training and playing for a club outside school showing a massive improvement in the school's football training.

Jack has also started playing football for the same club. We hear that his coach has said how much he has improved and like Harry Kane is a natural goal scorer. He also won an award.

Congratulations George and Jack!

Nadine's Gymnastic Sucess!

Nadine has been committed to gymnastics for nearly five years now and recently took part in a friendly competition against other classes at the same level.

She came 2nd in her floor routine, and 2nd overall on skill and agility winning silver medals in both, as well as a medal for her squad.

Congratulations Nadine!

Family Camp Night

From the 7th to the 8th of July, lots of pupils came to camp night with their families to enjoy the night on the school field. When people arrived, they formed a ring of their tents around the campfire. While the adults put up the tents, the children ran around and had fun with their friends. They did things such as football, talking to each other and more. We toasted marshmallows and got hot chocolate to drink at the campfire. After that, we went to bed. The next morning, everyone went to have breakfast and started to pack up. We all said goodbye and left. It was truly a great night.

Kingfisher Music Project Assembly

On the 10th of July, Kingfisher performed a few songs in front of our school.

Some of the Kingfisher 1 and Kingfisher 2 pupils were invited to join the BEAT Music Project which has lasted for two terms. This concluded with a music performance. Calvin was the drummer and was fantastic at it, the others were either shaking maracas or playing the Bjembe. They all sang beautifully and were so brave to sing in front of the whole school. The people who taught them were Oded and Sarah. They were amazing teachers and taught kingfisher the songs perfectly.

Year 4 Creative Writing at East Barnet Secondary School

On Monday 10th July, Year 4 went to East Barnet School for a creative writing workshop. We left in the morning and walked for 25 minutes to get there. Once we arrived, we went to our first workshop and met Caroline Green, author and writer in residence.

Ms Green, who was very nice, gave us each an object which we would use as an inspiration for our creative writing. We had to use our five senses to describe it. Then we created a word bank where we wrote down all our descriptive words for use in our story writing.

Soon after, we were all hungry, so we stopped for lunch and East Barnet kindly provided us with a feast of nuggets, chips, pizza, vegetables, and juice. After lunch, we had a break and got to run around the playground.

Next, we returned to our second session with Miss Pieri, the deputy of the English faculty. In this lesson, we thought about the setting and characters with a focus on what motivated our characters. Finally, we wrote our stories and shared them with the class. It was great fun and there are some truly amazing talented young writers in Year 4!

Then, before we knew it, it was time to return back to school for home time. Year 4 had a wonderful time and were grateful for this amazing experience. Thank you to all the teachers who made it possible.

Dance Day

On 12th July, Ms Papas held a dance day for all the girls and boys at Livingstone to perform. During the day, the school practised different dances, each better than the last: Flamenco and Salsa with Miss Wilkinson, Israeli dancing with Mrs Segal, who taught us this for Israeli weddings, the Cumberland Reel with Mrs Phelan, traditional Thai dancing with Miss Edwards, Traditional Greek dancing with Ms Papas and last but not least SOCA with the one and only Rough Diamond- our favourite and the most favourite dance across the school. They also thought that the Greek dance was fun too. The best part of the day, was performing to the adults- obviously.

Now let us tell you what people performed:

Reception- Cumberland reel

Year 1- Israeli dancing

Year 2- Cumberland reel

Year 3- Traditional Thai dancing

Year 4- Traditional Greek dancing

Year 5- Flamenco and Salsa

Year 6- SOCA

We hope all the parents who came enjoyed it!

The 13th of July was when the Livingstone football festival happened. 20 teams from different Barnet schools joined in the festival. Over 200 children came and participated in 4 groups of up to 5 teams. We entered 3 teams, the Livingstone Blues, Reds and Orange. Our scorers were George, Aaliyah and Brychan but every member of the teams played well.

Year 6 End of Year Show, School of Rock

Every year, the Year 6 class end the year with an exciting show for the pupils, teachers, parents and carers! At Livingstone, we have done many different shows over the years but this one has stood out the most...

The theme for the show this year was the film...The School of Rock!!This show is all about Dewey Finn who takes up his friend's job as a substitute teacher. Even though he has no qualifications for it, he instead starts training the students to form a band!

Years 4, 5 and 6 have all spent weeks practising lines and organising props and now it's time to perform!!! On Thursday, Years 4, 5 and 6 performed for the first time in front of an audience - staff, Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3! On Friday, they performed to parents/carers and gave it their all; the final show will be on Monday evening!

This show took a lot of organising and preparing so we want to say thank you to Miss Breen, Mrs Armstrong and everybody else who made this show awesome!

Parent Champions Coffee Morning 14th July 2023

Ros Attille, an experienced TV producer, joined us this morning during our last Parent Champion meeting. The discussion was about TV content, which programmes children prefer to watch, on which platforms, their attention span whilst watching TV and whether they prefer that to other activities, i.e. reading. Parents who were present at the meeting had the opportunity to share their personal experiences and opinions. Later on, Ros also interviewed some of our pupils about their favourite programmes too.

The Parent Champion Coffee mornings will resume every second Friday of the month at 9am in The Cabin, starting October 2023.

For our first coffee morning, on October 13th, we will have a guest speaker from BICS, who will talk to parents and carers about mental health of children and adults.

A massive THANK YOU to our LIVINGSTONE PARENT CHAMPIONS TEAM for all their hard work and effort to make a difference in our community. We are looking forward to helping even more families in the new academic year 2023-24.

If you are interested in becoming a Parent Champion, please contact Miss Papas or Mrs Segal via the Livingstone office. Training will be provided.

Thank you, Year 6 Newsletter Writers!

Move over Wilson! Not a chance Rowling! Who are you Dahl!

A massive thank you to Orpita, Kaitlin, Aidan, Zach, Catherine, Matteo and Hattie. It has been a pleasure doing the newsletter with the most talented set of writers in this school.

A special mention has to go to our Editors, Katerina and Lois. They have been editing the writing, giving up playtimes and chasing the writers all year. Despite being Arsenal fans, it has been lovely spending time and organising the newsletter with them.

What a future all these wonderful kids have!
