March Week 2

Friday 12th March

We are all relieved and elated that we have managed to complete the first week back to some normality in school. The pupils have settled back into good work patterns and are very keen to build on everything that they have achieved during the lockdown.

We have had such positive outcomes with the use of the chrome books and tablets that the pupils in KS2 are continuing to work on them in school and we are developing a continuation of online-learning for our younger pupils on the VLE.

Year 1

Year 1 have had a fantastic first week back to the classroom and have settled in well. It's like they were never away! They have impressed us with the sounds they know in whole class phonics and have learnt all about measuring and using rulers in Maths.

In Science, pupils are studying seasonal changes from Winter to Spring and are learning all about the changes that happen. Luckily, the perfect afternoon was picked for a Spring walk through the woods and to the lake. On the way, they spotted signs of Spring like buds and blossom on the plants and trees. They even spotted a butterfly! Looking across the lake at the trees, Year 1 make a note of how they look different each time we go.

Well done Y1 for a great week back!

Miss Purse

Soroiyan and Elsie really impressed with their knowledge and great effort in Science. They were the Scientists of the day for Friday.

Reception

What a wonderful week it has been welcoming Reception back under our rainbow balloon arch! Pupils have been focusing on the story Rain before Rainbows and shared what they treasure the most. This week's maths activities involved adding and subtracting with rainbow dice and gems.

Pupils put on their chefs' hats and have baked some tasty surprises for their Mums; they designed and wrote their own special cards too.

In Science they have been experimenting with Skittles and creating collages of giant rainbows with a variety of materials.

Mrs Segal

This week's award goes to all of Reception for a great week. It's been a joy to watch the children reunite with their friends as they learn and play together.

Nursery

In Nursery this week we are learning all about spring time on the farm. Pupils have been very creative in collaging their own sheep.

Ms. Pateman has been working really hard to improve our outside classroom area. The outdoor reading area is now officially open and all the pupils love it!

Mrs Sampson

This week's award goes to Billy for his lovely collage. He knows that wool comes from sheep and that it keeps us warm.

Year 5

Year 5 have had a fantastic first week back! In English, they have been enjoying the epic, Beowulf, and in PSHE they've been learning about money, budgeting and bank accounts, which are important life skills for their future economic well-being.

This week's awards go to Sogol for her effort with adding fractions in Maths, and to Sinan for using interesting language in his sentences about Beowulf - well done!

Miss Smith

Year 2

Year 2 have been using the book Rain before Rainbows for their English lessons and they have described the beautiful pictures in the book by writing their own sentences. In the book, the girl dreams for her future so pupils have created a whole class dream catcher where they wrote all their own dreams to display for everyone to see. The book has been wonderful for their rainbow art work too. Oil pastels, watercolours and chalk were used to create their rainbows.

A wonderful first week back Y2.

Miss Grant

This week's rewards go to Sonny for his fantastic language used to describe his own picture and Nadine for working so hard on developing her language in English.

Year 4

Year 4 have had an amazing first week! Building on conversations about International Women's Day, pupils looked at the meaning of democracy and how the UK is governed. From this, they created their own party and manifestos, including five key policies about how the school should be run. After their polling day, the results were announced. Two parties received an equal amount of votes, a coalition was formed. There have been some excellent discussions about important and relevant topics this week - well done year 4!

Mr Boucon

This week's awards go to Nate for his excellent work with expressing tenths as decimals, and to Maggie-Doll for her brilliant volcanic inspired design ideas in art.

Year 3

Year 3 have gone full steam ahead this week! Pupils have carried on with their lockdown learning with a focus on measurement in Maths. They have been using rulers and tape measures to find the length and perimeter of shapes and objects.

In English, they watched an animated story called, While we can't Hug and discussed the different ways to show someone you care and its importance given everything that has happened. Pupils came up with some fabulous ideas and good reasoning.

In Science, they have gone from Geologists to Paleontologists as they are now learning about fossilisation.

A ROCKing first week back!

Miss Fairley

This week's rewards go to Joshua for his brilliant work ethic returning to school and Sienna for her lovely ideas in English.

Kingfisher

Kingfisher 1 have been focusing on fact families for their addition and subtraction work in Maths. Well done!

Mrs Ferdenzi and Miss Kiazim

Kingfisher 2 have been working hard describing and sorting 3D shapes in Maths.

In English they have created alien characters and settings for their stories.

Miss Nicholson

This week's rewards go to Jacob in KF1 for his excellent work in Maths and to Jaydon and Jack in KF2 for their positive attitudes towards their learning.

Year 6

In Year 6 this week, pupils have been preparing to write a letter in role as Olive from their text, 'Letters from the Lighthouse'. They created short role plays to orally rehearse their ideas. Here are Jacob, Hunkar, Tarannom and Phoebe from Year 6S and Intisam, Maya and Jordan from 6L in action!

They have also been analysing the language that author, Emma Carroll, uses in 'Letters from a Lighthouse' to portray the character Olive.

Another book Year 6 have been looking at is 'Rain before Rainbows' by Smriti Halls. They have been focusing on the author's message of hope:

"I hope it will shine light in dark places and bring hope out of heartbreak – and that the promise of rainbows will breathe through every page of this book, keeping us looking to the future with courage, light and hearts filled with hope."

Vjosana (6B) and Tasfia (6S) have shown this message through the seasons, in that after the cold comes the sunshine.

Year 6L's Newest Bookworm

Jordan is the newest book worm in Year 6L. He has been totally engrossed in the class book The Explorer and picks it up to read whenever he has a spare second.

Well Done Jordan we love bookworms!

Miss Lax

This week, the awards go to all our Year 6 pupils! During lockdown, they displayed incredible resilience and made us extremely proud. They have returned to school with positive attitudes and are keen to continue their learning. Well done Year 6!

The Year 6 Team

'Rain before Rainbows'

Reception, Year 2 and Year 6 have been looking at the book Rain before Rainbows by Smriti Halls this week. The classes have based their writing, art and PSHE lessons on the delightful message the author gives of hopes and dreams. It just so happened that yesterday afternoon, following the rain, Mother Nature treated us to our very own double rainbow! A sure sign of hope! We had to share the beauty of what we could see on our Twitter page and couldn't resist tagging author Smriti Halls who kindly replied, "how gorgeous!'
