May Week 2
Friday 12th May
Well done to all the pupils in Year 6. They have worked exceptionally hard to prepare for their test this week and we look forward to getting our results at the beginning of July. Thank you to Miss Smith, Miss Breen, Mr Dawson, Miss Nicholson, Miss Consitt and Mrs Depala for getting them through the tests. Everyone will take a short break and go to Trent Park on Friday and then resume work on Monday.
Sunflower Competition- If you would like to grow a giant sunflower. please collect your seeds from the office by 24th May. Photos to be sent in by 17th July. Winner to be announced on 18th July with prizes.
On Wednesday, a small group of Year 5 children with an aptitude for languages was selected to participate in a Modern Foreign Language workshop in East Barnet School. The pupils had the opportunity to learn words and phrases in French and practise them with their peers from other Barnet Primary Schools.
This term our British Value is Liberty. We have been discussing in assembly and class about what liberty means to us. We have now come to the conclusion that it means freedom; freedom in choices and speech. Children can show liberty by choosing what they want for lunch, which games they want to play and who they want to play with. Children can also not take away liberty from other pupils by not calling out in class and not forcing others to play with them. We are awarding 8 golden badges to people in each year who show liberty the best during lessons as well as playtime and assembly. Aarshan and Christiana (Year 6 School Council).
PTA news - The plans for the Summer Fair (10th June, 1-4pm) are coming along nicely.
Non uniform days for donations are as follows:
Friday 19.5.17 Sweet and chocolate donations = any sweets (bags or boxes) for the tombola and prizes for games
Thursday 25.5.17 Bottle and jar donations = nice quality items that can be used for the bottle and jar tombola or prizes. E.g. wine, jam, bubble bath ...etc...
Friday 9.6.17 Toy donations = clean and really good quality toys for the toy stall
and Homemade cake donations = delicious homemade cakes for the cake stall.
We will shortly be standing at the gates asking for help setting up, running the stalls and clearing away. All help will be really appreciated and means more stalls can run. This in turn creates more money for all our children to enjoy.
We will also be sending home some raffle tickets for you to buy and sell to your family and friends. Following the success at Christmas we will be running another auction. We have some amazing raffle/auction prizes that will be advertised soon. If you are able to add to that list please let Catherine or Kerry know via the school office.
If there are any businesses that would like to advertise in the fair programme please see Mrs Stephens. The cost is £5 for a small advert and £10 for a large advert. Deadline for adverts is Friday 2.6.17.
Finally, we are on the look out for a band that would be willing to play at the fair for free or for a small donation. If anyone knows of anyone (including teenagers) with a good set who would like to play please let Catherine or Kerry know through the school office.
