May Week 2

Friday 16th May

Year 6 SATS

We are delighted to announce that the Year 6 SATs are now officially complete! After months of preparation and years of hard work, our pupils rose to the challenge. Despite some nerves, they gave it their all and performed to the best of their abilities.

A huge thank you goes to every member of staff who taught them over the years and helped prepare them, with special appreciation for Mr Boucon and Mrs Armstrong for their dedication and guidance.

We’d also like to thank you to Kate for leading the calming yoga session which helped our pupils stay focused each day.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts and are now looking forward to an exciting second half of the term. With plenty of fun activities planned, we’re ready to make sure our Year 6 pupils leave Livingstone with lots of great memories!

Nursery and KFE

This week in Nursery and Kingfisher Nursery we have continued to learn about frogs as well as some other minibeasts, including bees and ladybirds. We have kept our eyes open for minibeasts in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.

We have been counting, drawing, colouring and even making minibeasts out of fruit and vegetables.

This week also saw the very late and much anticipated arrival of our tiny caterpillars! They are wriggling around eating lots and already growing fast. We can't wait to see them become beautiful butterflies.

Our phonics sounds this week have been: 't' as in tower, train or teeth; and 'i' as in insect, itchy or invitation. Please enjoy noticing these sounds all around you at home and out and about.

Reception

Another busy and full week of learning in Reception as the children are engrossed by another fantastic story! This week we have been reading another traditional tale - Jack and the beanstalk and the class have amazed us with their ideas, imagination and growing skills and knowledge.

We were so surprised to see a letter and present from Jack... some beans! We have planted a bean and we are watching and observing every day to see the changes that happen. This has inspired drawing, writing, role play, maths and lots of communication skills this week.

I wonder what the bean will look like by Monday... maybe they will be magic beans after all!

Year 1

This week Year 1 created their own sculptural interpretations of The Tree of Life and Maman (giant spider) in our Art Lessons. We also started our Science topic of Plants. The pupils know that trees are plants, and can talk about the different parts of a plant and their functions.

In maths, we are learning how to find a quarter of a shape and of an amount. The pupils continued their brilliant writing inspired by The Paper Bag Princess in our English lessons and really tried hard to use the language from the text.

We are nearing the end of learning our Set 3 sounds in phonics, so please continue to review all of the sounds at home with their sound books and Book Bag Books.

Our achievement awards go to Leo and Julia for their excellent writing in English. Well done for using capital letters, full stop and expressive language.

Year 2

Year 2 have revised our topic of measurement including: length, mass, volume and temperature. In English, we are taking the traditional tale of 'The Three Little Pigs' and reinventing it! We have created our own characters (heroes and a villain) to retell this classic tale. We have learnt about staying safe online in Computing and sent messages through the VLE. Children can log in at home via the school's website. We have begun R.E where we are learning about special places. We have discussed where is special to the children and why.

Please also return your Brain Booster homework books so we can hand out the next term's homework.

This week's awards go to Bobby for his excellent descriptive language in English and Lou for her accurate readings of different scales in Maths. Well done!

Kingfisher 1

In maths this week we explored the topic of money. The children had fun matching different coins and taking part in role play activities. They enjoyed using a till to scan items and practised selecting the correct amount of money to pay for their purchases. This hands on approach helped reinforce their understanding of the value of the coins and how to use money in real life situations.

In English we read Draw Me a Star by Eric Carle. The children listened to the story and participated in role play to bring the narrative to life. Inspired by the book they took part in art activities, following step by step instructions on how to draw their own stars. This supported their listening and comprehension skills while allowing them to express their creativity.

This weeks award goes to Sergio for his positive aptitude to learning in Kingfisher 1 and Year 2.

Well done Sergio!

Year 3

Year 3 have had a fantastic week of learning. In Science, we have been learning about the different functions of the parts of a flowering plant. This including using different temperatures of coloured water to observe how water is transported through stem. In Maths we are learning about money and using the counting on method to the nearest £ for finding change/subtraction. We ended out week with using persuasive language techniques to promote Tobago as the go to holiday destination as we have been inspired by our English Text: Gregory Cool.

Year 6

Year 6 will know exactly what we mean when we say “and that’s that!” We honestly couldn’t be prouder of our fantastic Year 6 pupils. They’ve shown resilience, determination and incredible strength of character throughout this week. When the going got tough, they pushed through – proving just how remarkable they are when they put their minds to something.

A heartfelt thank you goes to every adult who supported Year 6 through SATs - we are truly grateful and appreciative of you all.

To celebrate the end of SATs, Year 6 enjoyed a well-earned film night (with plenty of snacks!) watching Oliver! And topped off the week with a glorious day in the sunshine at Trent Park – the perfect way to unwind after all their hard work.

Homework: None at all – enjoy a restful, well-deserved weekend, children and families alike!

This week's achievement award goes to all of year 6 for the above reasons!

Kingfisher 2

Tag Rugby Match vs St. Johns N20

WEwb6YZDOtOM67

The Tag Rugby League season has officially begun. After training hard throughout the year, our Year 5/6 team was more than ready to hit the field, and it showed!

Right from the first whistle, our players dominated the game with impressive teamwork, speed, and skill. Although the opposition came back strongly in the second half, our team rose to the challenge, continuing to score and holding their lead.

The match ended with a brilliant 9-3 victory to us. Most importantly, the children played with respect, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship, making us incredibly proud of their talent and attitude.

Well done to Albeiro, Eren, Lewis, Elsie, Anwen, Zainab, Charlotte, Anastasia and Nadine.

We have two more games next week so keep posted!
