September Week 2
Meet the Teacher!
Friday 12th September
It was lovely to see so many of you at our recent Meet the Teacher event—thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to welcoming more of you next week, and will be arranging more meetings and workshops for you to find out more about your child/ren’s learning throughout the year.
This morning, we held our first Parent Champion Coffee Morning of the year—a great chance for parents to connect and make new friends. We were also delighted to have Kristina (Lucas' mum) showcase her baby massage classes. If you are interested in Baby Massage or Baby Yoga classes, please contact the office and we will pass on the details.
Please keep an eye out for future events, and remember— we’re always looking for volunteers to support our PTA activities. Your help makes a real difference!
Parents and carers are reminded that pupils must wear helmets when using scooters or bikes. For safety reasons, these should be wheeled—not ridden—on school paths and playgrounds to avoid accidents, especially with younger children.
Thank you to all families already following this guidance.
Working Together for Good Attendance
Good attendance and punctuality are vital for your child’s learning and help build positive habits for life.
Reporting Absence
Please contact us on the first day of absence and keep us updated if it continues. This ensures we know your child is safe and can keep accurate records. After 3 days of consecutive illness the school may require medical evidence to support the absence.
Morning Routine
Children should be in the playground from 8:40am. Registers close at 8:55am; arrivals after this time will be marked late.
Authorised Absences
Absences may only be authorised for reasons such as:
- Illness
- Medical or dental appointments (please try to book outside school hours)
- Religious observance
- Family bereavement
- Absence during term time is only permitted in exceptional circumstances. After 3 days of illness, medical evidence may be requested.
Illness Guidance
Children who vomit or have diarrhoea should stay home for 48 hours after the last episode to avoid spreading infection.
Unauthorised Absences
Absences without a valid reason will be recorded as unauthorised. These include:
- Family holidays in term time
- Forgetting school dates
- Arriving after registers close
- Absence for birthdays or similar events
Nursery & KFE
Nursery and KFE have enjoyed their first full week and have been very busy settling in and playing and learning. The children are getting used to the classroom routines and having a great time.
While we are still looking forward to new starters in the coming weeks, this week we have been embracing the themes of Ourselves and Autumn and all the sensory experiences they offer.
We have also started reading our first core text: Owl Babies, you can watch the beautiful animated version here - https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXP66T2wp-k
Reception
Reception class is in full swing! Most of the children are in now and have been making new friends, exploring new areas of the school and meeting new members of staff. Thursday we loved exploring the pond area with Diane and Mr Sudbury, we sang songs with Mrs Margetts and Friday was our first full class of 'Big PE'. What a busy time!
Please remember to bring labelled book bags, water bottles and jackets in daily and welly boots now the weather is changing!
Our 'Meet the Teacher' meeting for Reception will be on Wednesday 24th September at 8.50am in the classroom where you will be given more information about the days, expectations and have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Year 1
In Maths, we have been counting to 10 and representing numbers in different ways. We have used concrete resources to create sequences and make numbers from 1 to 10. In English, we are continuing with the Read Write Inc scheme and the children are working hard in our Phonics lessons. In Science, we are learning about materials. Children have identified different materials and described their properties.
Also, please let Miss Fairley know if you are interested in Mystery Reader. This will run every Tuesday from 2:50pm for 15 minutes.
Homework
Reading
Written inside your child's reading diary are the sounds they are learning in Phonics and two reading books. The paper copy is the book they are reading in class so they will be familiar with the story. This is to help build fluency. Please do not write on the books as we reuse these each year. Each week, the Read Write Inc book and the paper book will get changed. Please make sure you read each book twice and record this in their diary so we know your child has been reading at home. Thank you!
Maths will be handed out next week.

This week's awards go to Lui for his brilliant effort recognising his sounds in Phonics and Doris for her accurate counting and reasoning in Maths. Well done you two!
Year 2
In Maths this week, we have been building on our knowledge of numbers up to 100. We have been using concrete resources to make our 2-digit numbers followed by writing them in numerals and words. In English we have continued our Read Write Inc comprehension unit based on the key text Chicken Licken. We have carried out some very exciting investigations in Science to test the suitability of materials for various objects such as 'Which material is more suitable as a shoe-lace?' We had our first Year 2 'Read with Me' session in the library; thank you to all the adults that came to support the children.
Reminder - 'Meet the teacher' is on Wednesday 17th September at 8:50 -9:00am.
