January Week 3

Friday 20th January

At Livingstone we do our best to provide an individualised learning programme for pupils within a class setting. All pupils are continually assessed and, where needed, additional teaching support and learning interventions are allocated.  The support is provided in many different ways and may be in the form of a teaching assistant working with the group, a specialist teacher taking a group out of class, a 1-1 session with a reading volunteer or Challenge Club. The funding for many of the sessions come from Pupil Premium which  allocated on the basis of pupils on Free School Meals, however, we combine this money with our teaching budget to ensure that all pupils get the maximum benefit. Therefore, it is important that if you have concerns about your child/ren’s progress, please make an appointment to see your class teacher or mention it at parents consultations, as their needs can be addressed in many ways not just through Challenge.

SATs clubs are running over half term for Year 2 and Year 6.  Year 2 clubs will run as 2 sessions; 9.15am-11.00am and 11.30am-1.30pm and will cover Maths, English & Science. Year 6 will run from 10.00am -12.00pm.  Letters are going out next week.

Barnet Public health Team have commissioned free Activity and Nutrition Clubs called ‘Alive N’Kicking’ to run across the Borough. These clubs are designed to improve the fitness and health of school age children.  The nearest club to Livingstone is based at All Saints Church Hall N20 9EZ and you can book a place by ringing 020 8102 0530 or email barnet@ank.uk.com. Check the poster in the front office for other venues and more information.

Yesterday, H.G. Sansostri - a 14-year-old author from Barnet - visited KS2 to talk about his two published books and how he turned his negative experiences of being bullied as a child into something positive. The staff and children were very impressed with his confidence, preparedness and humour; they thoroughly enjoyed his assembly. His two books, 'The Chronicles Of Derek Dunstable' and 'The Little Dudez' Skool Survival Guide' are in our library for children to borrow.
On Monday we took part in a Boccia competition for children with SEN.  Our two teams of three Kingfisher pupils made us very proud by not only successfully competing but by also coming third out of twenty eight teams! What an achievement! Congratulations to Kamyar, Fabiano and Jonathan, as well as Oliver, Liza and Elijah who came home with broze medals.

On Wednesday our year 5 and 6 girls football team took part in their Powerleague competition. They made a great start by drawing the first game 1-1. They went on to win and draw their next two games before unfortunately losing their final two matches. This is a great achievement for the girls that took part and they are looking forward to their next league game next Tuesday. Congratulations to Esjena, Lily, Christiana, Brooke, Tillie, Maddy, Terri-Ann and Sophia (year 4!!)

On Thursday, Livingstone played a competitive netball match against Brunswick Park. The first two quarters were really tight as Brunswick Park were leading with one point. We came back strong with Pau taking a brilliant shot in the last five seconds. The score was 1-1.  Congratulations to our netball team: Jerom, Christiana, Daniel A, Pau, Isabella (who came in replacement of Tillie), Correl and Lily R. Thank you to all the people who came to support us, especially Miss Kwan and Mrs Church for the training.

Please take note that we have PGL meeting for Year 5 parents at 3:30pm on Wed 25th Jan and SATs meetings for Year 6 parents at 8:50am and 3:30pm Wed 8th Feb.
