January Week 3

Friday 19th January

Thank you to Jo and Tracey in the kitchen for preparing excellent food every day of the week but especially for the fabulous international food served this Thursday. Pupils and staff were treated to Thai Curry, Pizza and Mac ‘n’ Cheese, followed by Chocolate and Seville Orange Pudding. Look out for taster days later in the year when we will be inviting parents/ carers into school to sample the school dinners.

International Languages Day Assembly

On Monday we celebrated International Languages Day with a lovely assembly. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote awareness of language and cultural diversity all across our school. In London, about 300 languages are spoken and in Livingstone we speak 30 different languages, with Polish, Farsi and Albanian being in the top three.  Some bilingual or multilingual pupils had the opportunity to show off their language skills as well as traditional costumes and dresses from their country of origin, and some pupils participated in role-plays of familiar stories in their mother tongue (The Giant Turnip in Polish and The Little Red Riding Hood in Greek). Mrs Armstrong spoke about the books that can be found in the library in more than 18 different languages, with a lot more new titles added to the list of 'Community Language' books.

Thank you Miss Papas and Mrs Ferdenzi

Match Reports

On Friday 12th January our Year 5 & 6 Girls football team played St Andrews Primary School in a very close and hard fought game. In the first half we got off to a very slow start conceding 2 goals from silly mistakes. However, in the second half the girls turned things around through hard work and determination, Terri-Ann and Darina exemplifying this. Final score 3-1 to St Andrews but a moral victory to Livingstone. Well done to Tillie, Terri-Ann, Mimi, Nona, Maddy (goal scorer), Darina, Sophia and Sarah.

On Tuesday 16th January, our Year 5 & 6 netball team travelled to Osidge Primary School for their first game of the New Year. Osidge proved to be a very tough and well organised side scoring 11 times while Shyam and Isabella managed to score for us. Despite the heavy loss, all the children played extremely well and are looking forward to more netball matches coming soon. Well done to Jack, Billy, Tillie, Isabella, Shyam, Sarah and Sophia.
