June Week 3

Friday 22nd June

As part of the PSHE Curriculum, Year 2  performed four short plays from Marlo Thomas' book 'Free to be you and me' addressing gender roles and stereotypes, racial  awareness and expression of feelings. All children acted, danced and sang beautifully, amazing everyone with the effort they put into their performance.

We took 50 pupils from Years 3 to 6 to the Allianz Stadium to compete in many athletic events. The Year 5 and 6s competed against 16 other small schools in Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Speed Bounce and Ball Throw.  We had many great performances: JJ (Yr 5) won the Speed Bounce, Norbert (Yr5) won the Long Jump, Luke (Yr5) won the Javelin, Sarah (Y5) won the Long Jump. In the afternoon, there was Sprinting, Middle Distances Running, Relays and the Tug of War. In these events Zoe (Yr4) won the 60m sprint, Sarah (Yr5) won the girls 300m, Luke (Yr5) won the boys 300m, Bradley (Y6) won the 60m, Yr 4 girls (Zoe, Roxy, Naomi and Karolina) won the relay. Overall we finished 3rd .

The Tug of War team had a lot to live up to as we had won this event four years in a row. The team of Mason and Jasmin (Yr6), Sara and Archie (Yr5), Joviel and Serine (Yr4) and Jacob and Maya (Yr3) demolished all opposition to win the trophy for the fifth year in a row.

Barnet School's Music Festival

On Monday 18th June, Miss Finn, Mrs Segal and Miss Breen took 28 children from the choir to the Arts Depot, where they performed lots of different songs with 7 other schools. Their performance of 'If only you would listen' from School of Rock really impressed all the staff from BEAT (Barnet Education Arts Trust), who complimented them on their enthusiasm and confidence. Every single member of the choir behaved and sang beautifully. The deadline for ordering a DVD of the performance is next Friday.

Winning Limerick Y5 Primary Challenge

Alone on his boat there was Sam,

Who liked to eat wafer-thin ham.

He choked on a slice,

And paid a big price,

So now he prefers to eat lamb.
