Father's Day Stall!

Friday 23th June

Thank you again to all our wonderful supportive band of parents/ carers who made the Father's Day stall possible. Isabelle and Sienna's Mums did an amazing job with the 'Crispy Cakes' and 'Rocky Road' with no soggy bottoms to be seen!

Barnet Music Festival

On Monday evening we were treated to a beautiful rendition of 'Colours of the Wind' by the Livingstone Choir. The pupils were very nervous at the start, as they were on stage at the Arts Depot, in front of a full house. However, that didn't stop them from performing several other songs with pupils from different Barnet Schools equally as well. Well done to everyone and a very big thank you to Mrs Margetts who prepared them to musical perfection and to Mrs Cavozzi who made sure they looked immaculate on stage. Next year we are hoping to get even more pupils to perform.

Keeping Children Safe - Victoria Park

We are very fortunate to have the wonderful Victoria Park on our doorstep, but we are aware that some of our pupils are not always being adequately supervised or behaving appropriately before and/or after school when at the park.

Parents/carers, please be mindful of the risks if you are not supervising your children at the park, especially as there have been reports of some secondary school aged pupils who have been not very respectful towards other children and adults.

BIG BAD BARRY

Sad news for Big Bad Barry this week. He is now swimming with the angels after living a good life in our school pond for over 10 years. He will be sadly missed - especially by the children who have been feeding and following him in forest school/toddler group. We are going to miss you Barry.

Nursery and Kingfisher Nursery

Our topic this week has been all about Minibeasts. We have been busy drawing beetles just like the one we found in the classroom. The children have learnt that beetles have six legs. We have also remembered lots of facts about butterflies from our previous learning.

"Beetles have six legs, just like all insects".

Remembering 'symmetry' means "the same both sides!"

Reception

Reception have been getting ready for their Graduation show. They have been learning lines, songs and dances and projecting their voices. They have been sent their laminated lines to practise with at home too!

The children can wear a costume/outfit of their choice on the day. We ask that you bring this in to school in a bag labelled with their name for their first show on Tuesday 4th July at 2.30pm. This will come home that day and they will come ready in their outfits for their performance at 9.10am on Friday 7th July.

Thank you!

Achievement Awards!

Frankie and Arshin for their fantastic performances this week. Well done for learning your lines and having a brilliant big voice!

Year 1

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Lee Valley Farm. We saw several animals including tortoises, wallabies, meerkats, zebus, rabbits, goats, chickens and pigs. The children were beautifully behaved and enjoyed feeding some of these animals as well. Thank you to all of the adults for their help and enthusiasm.

We also enjoyed learning about sliders and levers in our DT lessons. We looked at several pop-up books with different mechanisms and had a good practice making our own. We look forward to designing and creating our own products next week.

The first achievement awards this week goes to Leo for trying so hard to focus and stay on task this week during all of his lessons. The second achievement award goes to Nora for her challenging herself during DT to create more intricate mechanisms.

Year 2

Year 2 have been focusing on money this week in Maths. We have counted pounds and pence, used coins to make different amounts and recreated a real life shop experience.

We got to make our fruit kebabs this week as part of our learning in D.T. The children handled the knives with care to chop and slice their selected fruits. They were scrumptious! This also inspired our writing this week and we learnt how to write a set of instructions.

Also, we are very impressed with their dance moves! The children seem to be enjoying the extra P.E lesson on Mondays.

Don't forget our class trip on Tuesday 27th June to the seaside. Please bring in a packed lunch, spare clothes, sun-cream and a sun hat. The school will provide bucket and spades.

HOMEWORK:

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling book p.6-7 and 14-15

This week's awards go to Zachary for his amazing instruction writing of how to make a fruit kebab and to Ryan for his brilliant mental maths skills whilst adding money.

Kingfisher 1

This week in English we enjoyed reading 'Mog and the Baby'. The children engaged well with the text and did some excellent writing.

In Maths we started looking at multiplication, we used a range of resources to develop a deeper understanding of multiplication as repeated addition. The children worked very hard.

The Year 1 pupils had a great time visiting the Lee Valley on their class trip.

JUlMjkmerdCWh0

This week's achievement award goes to our Year 1 pupils for all their hard work in phonics, well done!

Year 3

This week year 3 have started working on angles in maths. We have been focusing on right angles, obtuse and acute and we created our own angles using string and blue tac which we all really enjoyed. Some of us challenged ourselves to create shapes with certain angles in and we all helped each other.

In D&T we have been focusing on shell structures and we have worked hard at creating our own biscuit box container made out of paper that is strong enough to hold some biscuits. We all found this a little challenging but we have worked hard at creating our product and making sure we were using the strengthening techniques we learnt in class of laminating and ribbing.

Year 3 have enjoyed learning all about Hedgehogs in Environmental Studies with Mr Sudbury and created some lovely collages on Wednesday using natural materials.

CGP:

Maths: angles and lines - page 58 & 59

SPaG: mixed sentence practice - page 16 & 17

Year 4

This week, we covered line graphs and coordinates in maths and wrote persuasive adverts for Rambashi's Grill from Phillip Pullman's 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' in English. Unsurprisingly, they were all quite persuasive! Our afternoon lessons included starting our art topic on clay vases and completing letters to our pen pals in France.

SPaG: Its and It's - page 56 and 57

Year 5

In Maths, the children learned about negative numbers, including solving word problems and using a number line to find the difference between a positive and negative number.

In English, they did a fantastic job writing their balanced arguments based on our whole-class book, Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman.

In RE, we looked at global issues affecting us and the world right now and looked at how Christians may respond to the issues.

Kingfisher 2

This week KF2 have been learning about the number of minutes and an hour and the number of hours in a day.

In English, the boys have been focussing on structuring and punctuating their sentences correctly and wrote some great detailed recounts about their trip to Willows Farm.

They are all getting good at sequencing words in alphabetical order too!

This week’s KF2 achievement award, goes to Jaydon for being kind to one of his classmates during story time and for working really hard on his Willows Farm recount writing.

League Update

We have never had a year like this one in regard to sporting achievements. We have set new school records and sporting milestones.

We entered four leagues this year: Mixed Football League, Girls Football League, Netball League and Tag Rugby League. We came third in the Mixed League and we have already celebrated the winnings of the Netball and Rugby but last Friday, we played for the Central Girls Cup where we played against the other pool winner: Foulds Primary School.

It was a very close match and Foulds had some great opportunities to score but our goal keeper was phenomenal. Within the first 10 minutes, Katilin scored an unbelievable goal making it 1-0 to us. The team's defense was exceptional to ensure the game stayed that and it did!

It was an incredible turn out of children, teachers, parents and carers coming to watch. We are very thankful to everyone who has supported the children this year in all of our sporting competitions. However, it is not over! The girls are going for the treble! After winning the Barnet Powerleague Tournament and the Central Cup, we have our final match against Foulds again for the John King Cup.

Rugby Awards

On Wednesday night, Jack received two awards at the Saracens Rugby Club's end-of-season ceremony: the Player's Player of the Year and The Spirit of Saracens trophy. These accolades recognise Jack's hard work, determination, skill, and growth mindset. It has been a pleasure to witness Jack's growing confidence since teaching him in year 4. I hope this inspires others to participate in rugby a wonderful and inclusive support. Congratulations, Jack!

KS1 Sports Festival

Last week, children from Years 1 and 2 were selected to have the opportunity to attend an inter-school festival. It was a great day to be outside and take part in different games.
