May Week 4

Friday 19th May

Y6 SATs Completed!

Y6 SATs was a challenging experience for everyone who did it, we all did very well and are over the moon about how hard we all tried and how much effort went into these tests. There were two groups in different rooms, one group in the art room and one group in the dining hall. We also had a lot of help along the way, such as Kate Orr doing yoga with us everyone morning - to help us relax for the upcoming exams. We are also very thankful to Mrs Kelly and others for providing us with breakfast everyday. Even if we were nervous, we had the amazing staff there to help us along the way. I am sure all parents and teachers are so proud of everyone who participated in the tests! On the Friday of that week, we all went to Victoria Park, did lots of fun activities and most importantly had plenty of fun!!!

We are very thankful to all the teachers who were in there with us: Miss Breen, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Cockburn, Mrs Kelly, Diane, Mr Madle and Mrs Phelan. We can't wait to get our results in July!!!

Netball Finals

On the 18th of May, a group from Year 6 took part in a Netball Final. Since Livingstone won their league, we had to play against 3 other schools, who had won their league as well. Let me tell you how the netball final went.

The first school we were playing was called Kerem and we won 2 - 0. The next school we were playing was Moss Hall who were really good, but we beat them 3-1. At this point, we had won all of our matches and we had one school left to play - who had won all of their matches as well. Our last match was against St Johns N20 and it was our toughest match that we have played. At half time, we were 2 -1 down so we came into the second half feeling positive and determined. We ended the game by winning 5 -2, which meant that we had won all of our games and were the winners of the netball final.

Well done to Catherine, Lois, Hattie, Geethesri, Qama, Albion and Jack D. Thank you to all the teachers that came to support us and for Mrs Church for pushing us to do our best - we wouldn't have won without you.

Year 3 Recorder Concert

The Yr 3 pupils performed their recorder concert beautifully. We heard them play Mama Mia, Frere Jacques and Ode to Joy by Beethoven. Thank you to Mark (the music teacher) and the Yr 3 team for the most amazing and uplifting assembly. Well done Year 3.

Reception's Trip to Aldenham Farm

Reception went to Aldenham Farm on the 20th April and had a good time with their class-mates. They walked around the farm and saw many animals and even got to feed some!!! They learnt about where they were kept and how they are looked after. At lunch time, they ate outside with all the other farm animals. Towards the end the day, they went to an adventure park - it was one of their favourite things there!!! It had loads of equipment and things to play on: zip line etc.

Thank you to all the teachers who took the children here!!!

They had a great time!!!

What is a Coronation? Why do we celebrate?

The Coronation

A Coronation is the ceremony that crowns the monarch (King or Queen). In this case, it was the crowning of King Charles lll that happened on Saturday 6th May. In Westminister Abbey, the king was made the Monarch of England and Head of State officially. He made promises to rule according to the law. We celebrate the coronation because it's a chance to welcome our new king and celebrate the new monarch. Westminister Abbey has had many coronations held in it, the first one being William l coronation. The coronation is a historical event.

Coronation Lunch

On Friday 5th May, we celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III. We had a big party with the whole school to celebrate the occasion. We got to dance the Cha Cha Slide, Macarena and we even break danced! We had a special meal since this is a big occasion - especially for the royal family. We had some music playing on the visualiser and some of us even sung on a microphone; Ruby, Jaime, Chloe and much more! Everybody had a good time - even Mrs Cockburn and the other teachers and TAs! We all designed pots that we planted wild flower seeds in to honour the Kings coronation, since he likes gardening. We all had a blast at our parties. Our parties were sectioned into 2 groups: KS1 and Reception and KS2. Sadly, Nursery didn't do it, but we're sure that they had a good time!

The second race was Chloe vs Mr Sudbury but sadly Chloe didn't win and Mr Sudbury took the win, but only by one stroke. The third and final race was Mr Sudbury vs Chloe vs Arbel vs Sophia vs Brychan, the race ended with Chloe first Brychan second Arbel third Sophia forth and Mr Sudbury in fifth. Over the last two weeks, we learned and got better at swimming.

Y5 Making Bread

D&T is so much fun! Y5 had a choice to make a sweet or savoury bread. First they washed there hands thoroughly - of course. Next, they cut up all the fruit/herbs that will be going inside of their bread. Then, you do all the basics like making a cake! Then you want to put the dough on a floury surface and knead for 10 minutes. Now, what you cut, your going to pour half of that on to the dough and fold it like a package. You are then going to do the same thing until most of your ingredients are hidden. Then cover your bowl in olive oil and put the do in- don't forget to wrap that bowl up in cling film! You will the need to leave that for 2 hours to prove. Once that has proved, you are going to punch the dough lightly to release some of the air. After that, you are going to cut out a design about 1cm deep- the size of your finger nail. Once that's done, but it in the oven for about 30-40 minutes. Enjoy!

Kingfisher's Chickenshed Workshop

The Chickenshed have been visiting Kingfisher this half term for some workshops. They were a great help, as it teaches children not to feel overwhelmed or lonely because you might act differently than others. When children grow up, if they want, they can join Chickenshed on a mission to help people who need support. The Chickenshed perform shows: interesting and meaningful, so it draws attention and persuades people to help with the problems of others.

What is it like to be a Livingstone pupil?

Katerina and Lois Y6:

Livingstone Primary School is the best school in Barnet!

A great thing about our school is that you can make many life- long friends , build confidence; the list is end-less. For us, Livingstone is our second family, our home. My school teaches me respect and responsibility.

Katerina: At my school we have the most amazing school trips! Every year group has had at least one life-changing trip that they will remember forever. In Y6 we have many fun trips throughout the whole year: PGL (Parents Get Lost :), Paris, Chessington etc. My favourite trip so far was PGL because it made me have more confidence and I spent a whole week with my friends (no parents!). I loved all the cool activities there and all workers there! I am very excited for all the upcoming trips and can't wait to go on them!

Lois: I love my school because it has lots of facilities. There are so many extra - curricular activities like competitions, dancing/ gymnastics yoga, sports etc. We are very lucky to have a library, a giant field, netball court, an all-weather pitch, KS1&2 and Reception playground and many more.

Orpita and Matteo Y6 interviewing for Yasmin and Denat in Reception:

My name is Orpita and on the 4th of May I interviewed Yasmin in Reception.

Yasmin is extremely happy in class and has been enjoying everything about it so far. She really likes her teachers and learning phonics. Yasmin loves playing with the china cups and having a tea party with them especially when her friends have joined her. The bunnies, Coco and Toffee, are really cuddly and soft which is a reason why she likes them. Yasmin also loves reading books and finds them interesting especially when she is being read to. She always wonders what is going to happen next. There are some trips that have happened too and her favourite one was going to the farm as she likes seeing the animals.

On Wednesdays, PE is her favourite, as she likes running because she is extremely fast. Playing outside during break is extremely enjoyable because the new castle is very fun to play with. Yasmin is having an amazing time at Livingstone. She is very uplifting and has many friends by her side.

My name is Matteo and I interviewed Denat in Reception:

Denat has loved Reception so far and he enjoys many things in his class like holding the chicks for the first time. He also enjoys drawing and running around. He told me that he really liked looking at the snails that him and his Reception class collected when they went to Hadley Woods because they were very big. In Reception all the teachers make the learning as fun as possible and he told me that he likes their phonics lessons, writing and maths (he told me that 8 add 8 = 16). In Reception they have been on many trips this year, and some very fun ones: going to see a movie, going to the woods and visiting the pond area and in the pond area he liked looking at frogs.

Being part of the Reception class means that you have accessibility to an incredible playground with many features: a new castle and many bikes but Denat's favourite is the train station but he really likes the castle, the bikes and scooters and the small houses. At play times Denat also likes the play mobile because you can stick them together and make what ever you want then break other peoples, he told me.

On Wednesday, Reception have PE and he told me that his favourite part of PE is when the teachers helped him and taught him how to climb on the climbing frame in the main hall.

Nadine Y4 :

Being a child at Livingstone is great because we get the freedom to talk freely and encouraged to participate in everything. All the teachers are really kind and guide us when we are stuck on something, they always make us smile. We go on fun educational trips about what we learn in school. The playgrounds we have are so spacious and lovely. We have a netball court and all weather pitch which are always fun to play in. There is a KS1 and KS2 playground that we all love. Every Wednesday, we either get to go to forest school in the pond area, have reading time in our library, do dance/gymnastics or do outdoor PE. We have Kingfisher for children that might need a bit more help than us, and they are amazing people to be with and talk to. We have a large field where we play on when it is sunny, we hold sporting events on it and there are some clubs on the field which is accessible for every year from year 1 to year 6.

Renu Y4 :

Being a Livingstone child is a lot of fun; we get to see our friends every day and learn new things every day. The teachers here are very supportive and helpful; they help us with our work when we are stuck and are really nice!!! On Wednesdays we're very lucky to be able to do loads of fun activities with our friends and teachers: dance, PE (in general), forest school, art and many more. We have a range of different subjects every day: maths, English, science, RE, art, spelling and guided reading. My favourite subject is guided reading because I love reading. Every day, a different teacher comes out on the playground on duty to keep us safe. We have 3 different play grounds; we have 1 for nursery and reception, 1 for KS1 and 1 for KS2. Our play-grounds are very big and I love playing in them with my friends.

Isabelle Y2 :

Being a child at Livingstone is awesome!!! We have kind teachers and TA's who help us with our work. If we are stuck on a subject, they are always there to help. What we love the most, is our big field to play on in the summer. On Wednesdays, we have PE lessons outside which are so fun!!! The school dinners are amazing, pasta, flan, pizza, pastries, fish fingers and more. We go outside on Fridays for goldentime for extra play time. Some of the subjects we do are Maths, English, Science, Guided reading and Art.

Zach Y2 :

I really enjoy being a child at Livingstone because we have amazing teachers who help me in lessons and care about all of us! I have lots of great friends who I work and play with! I love my school dinners because there are so many meals to chose from!

Jaime and Chloe Y5 :

We think school is fun because we get to experience a lot of different opportunity's for sports. We get to do a lot of subjects in class; Art, French, English, Science, Math, Design and technology and History. We also get to challenge ourselves with having harder challenges for us to complete in our lessons. In maths we usually have different levels in our lessons; Warm, Hot and Spicy. Warm is the easiest its where you can do that if you don't really understand what you are expected to do. Hot is a bit harder then warm, most people do this challenge. Spicy is the hardest as you need to do more work and explain nearly all of your answers for the questions.

What is it like being a parent at Livingstone?

aZHxcwQHVUm1AP

My time as a parent at Livingstone is nearly over and I’ll be really sad to say goodbye at the end of the summer term. I’ve made friends for life in other parents, been involved in so many memorable activities as part of the PTA and watched both of my children flourish, grow in confidence, and get set up for their amazing futures with the guidance, commitment and support of everyone that works at the school.

When we first moved to Barnet, we wanted to be part of a community and really feel like this was ‘home’. It wasn’t until we moved up the road from Livingstone and heard everyone talking about the great local school that we decided to have a look around and see what made it so special.

From the moment we walked in, we loved the feel of it- the warm welcome when we arrived, all the outside space, the library as the focal point and the smiling faces and enthusiasm of the young people and adults we met. And 10 years later and every day since, that’s still what everyone experiences- an inclusive, pastoral culture with the children’s best interests at heart- as a parent you can’t ask for anything more.

I’ve loved being part of the Livingstone family, from camp nights to family yoga, helping with trips and running workshops, dancing and terrible face painting at fairs (sorry kids!) it’s been an absolute joy- so thank you to everyone at Livingstone for helping to make Barnet our home- you’ll always have a very special place in my family’s heart.
