October Week 3
Friday 19th October
Black History Month
This Month Livingstone is celebrating Black History Month. Black History Month is when we remember all of the black people who have made big accomplishments all over the world. 5S who are taught by Miss Smith, are doing a poem called the Caged Bird which was written by a black poet called Maya Angelou, who turned mute after being attacked. There is also Martin Luther King, who made a speech to treat black people the same as white people. The final black person I’m going to talk about is Rosa Parks who didn’t give up her seat for a white person and had to go to prison for doing that . Happy Black History Month Everyone! By Jim Baker (5BB)
PGL Little Canada Isle of Wight
On the 8th October Year 6 went to PGL Little Canada in the Isle of Wight. We travelled by coach for two hours to Portsmouth and hopped onto the ferry for around fifty minutes. After around ten minutes, we saw the gates labelled Little Canada open; everyone cheered and apparently classes have never cheered before, we were the first.
We went to the Activity Zone (A-zone) to drop off our bags and met our wonderful groupie Kieran. Soon later, we all got settled into our rooms and sorted ourselves out, everyone was ecstatic about who they were staying with! Nothing much else happened that day besides Ambush. We were split into two group and had to either hide or seek as a team. It was quite hard as we were playing in the dark...
The next day we had activities such as abseiling. Most people were petrified as we had to tilt over a giant wall; others would just zoom down, all that they were thinking was 'these ropes can hold double decker busses, I'm perfectly safe.' We also had orienteering, we had to follow a map to reach numbers and stamp our sheet. We didn't have an instructor so we all had to work as a team.
On Wednesday, we all had sensory trail. Our entire group had blindfolds on and we had to rely on each other to get through it all. By the end of it we were all covered in mud and it was a race to the showers. We also had our groupie Kieran pour buckets of water down our backs alongside our teachers. At the end of the day, we had a campfire - which was led by Hannah as Kieran was feeling poorly. We roasted marshmallows and had biscuits. Many fun camp songs were also sung!
By Thursday we were all really tired but we still all had a few more activities. We had Jacob's Ladder, it was a giant ladder and the gaps between the planks of wood got larger each time. Some of us struggled whilst others thrived and reached the top! At night we enjoyed our final evening with a disco! Many schools were there and we definitely ate too many sweets
And Friday... our final day we ate breakfast and sorted out our luggage ready to go home. Everyone said that the days went slow but the week went fast. We travelled back with a couple delays but we made it. Everyone was so happy to be home but still miss PGL.
We need to thank everyone at PGL for giving us an amazing time and plenty fantastic opportunities. From the staff to instructors and even the people who cleaned our rooms before we came. We also need to thank all of the teachers who came with us: Mrs Nicholson, Mr Madle, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Speed for putting up with us for the entire week. I'm also not forgetting everyone who stayed at Livingstone and helped put this memorable trip together. By Sophia (6)
HALF TERM - Monday 22nd – Friday 26th October. Pupils return on Monday 29th October
Coming back to school
no.No.No! It’s a school morning and the holiday just hasn’t been long enough. I mean I’ve had so much fun but I need more time to, to, well not to do work. It’s such a hard life having to write all the time and only getting two days off each week, the work never stops. We get homework on the weekend as well! I woke and I was really tired, so tired I got back into bed. My mum bugged me to get out, I went down to breakfast and they started shouting at me to get ready. I put on my new uniform (it was the first time in ages!). I was nervous but really excited to see my friends again. I walked to school with my Dad into the playground and then the dreaded whistle blew. I walked into a brand new colourful classroom and found my peg. I started to feel more relaxed and actually my new teacher wasn’t that bad at all. By Kiera (5S)
Rock out with Maths!
This article is to inform you about our new online website resource called TT Rockstars. I think all of the teachers will agree with me on this that all parents should encourage their children to practice their times tables regularly. You get to buy costumes for your character out of the cash you have earned by getting all the maths questions correct. It will get your brains ready to learn every single day and make them smash their maths tests. By Ruby (5S)
Cross Country
– we took a cross country team to Allianz Park. They had to run over a mile and there was around 130 competitors in each race. Thank you to Miss Fairley, Mrs Church and Diane for preparing and taking our stars.

we played against a very strong Sacred Heart team. In the first half we were struggling to get to grips to the pace of the game but we played brilliantly and kept on going in the second half scoring four goals (Riley and Harry L Yr5BB). Sadly we lost 7-4 against the opposing team but everyone was still amazing. Well done Boys

How Slime is harming us?
You may have heard of this gooey nonsense called slime. It can be quite a lot of fun by how flexible it is. You can mould it, poke it, squeeze it and swirl it but it has become a threat to people. When some people make slime they use this very dangerous liquid called Borax. Although it is used to clean clothes, is bad for our skin. Some people’s skin are peeling off because of this chemical. So we should use materials such as corn flour and water to make slime so we are not getting harmed. By Jana (5BB)
Welcome to Livingstone Reception Class!
The colourful and bright Reception class is full of noise and learning where creativity and fun shines throughout. It was lovely to meet another 30 bright young minds joining the Livingstone family. I enjoyed hearing the stories, watching them dress up and listening to them be excited about their first ever topic…London. The Reception pupils especially love the outdoors; with their many toys that they respect and love. By Naomi (5BB)

Lego Batman Movie Review
The Lego Batman movie is basically about Batman, but when a new police officer comes, she ruins everything. His reputation mostly. When he adopts little cute boy he learns how not to be selfish and let other people join in rescuing the world. At some points I was heart-broken and at other parts I laughed out loud. I would highly recommend this movie. By Maria G (5BB).
Kingfisher 1
Kingfisher 1 had great fun on an Autumn Walk where they explored changes in weather and searched for evidence of Autumn. By George (Yr1)
School Council
Once again, Livingstone have selected this year’s school council candidates. This year the councillors will be involved in setting up an Eco Team for Mr Sudbury in order to help him around the school with general school chores such as litter-picking, feeding the fish etc. Another thing that they will be considering is the parking issues during drop-off and pick-up time and lots more. We hope to see an improvement in areas that need attention and developing. By Nicholas(6)
