June Week 4

Friday 27th June

Our Amazing Choir!

On Wednesday, our talented choir from Years 4, 5, and 6 took to the stage at the Arts Depot as part of the Barnet Music Festival - and they were absolutely fabulous!

The children performed a wonderful selection of songs, showcasing their hard work and enthusiasm. The standout moment of the day was a stunning performance of Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars, which truly captivated all of our parents.

To top off the experience, the choir had a well-deserved pizza meal at a local restaurant (an extra slice of fun) in between a day full of music and memories.

We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who represented our school so well. What a fantastic experience for everyone involved!

A huge thank you to Mrs Fewster and Mrs Segal for their inspiration, preparation and brilliant organisation.

Sports Day Success

What an amazing Sports Day we had - full of achievement, energy, and fun from start to finish!

In the morning, our youngest athletes from Nursery to Year 3 gave it their all, especially in the ever-challenging egg and spoon race—made even trickier by the windy weather! A special well done to those taking part in their very first races —you were brilliant! The parents’ race brought plenty of laughs and some very creative strategies for getting the egg safely across the finish line! Congratulations to the Red Team for their overall victory in the morning events, and a big cheer for all the pupils for their fantastic effort and sportsmanship.

In the afternoon, it was the turn of Years 4, 5, and 6, and the atmosphere was electric! House teams cheered on their competitors with pride and enthusiasm. One of the highlights was the fancy dress race, where we saw some very imaginative ways to wear a skirt—colour coordination at its finest! The parents’ tug of war was a thrilling showdown of strength and determination. It was a close overall, but in the end, Blue Team pulled their way to victory!

A massive thank you to all the staff who helped make the day run smoothly, and a special shout-out to Miss Fairley for organising such a fantastic event. Huge thanks also to our amazing PE Leaders for their support and energy throughout the day.

'Bring a Toy' Afternoon on Tuesday 1st July.

Following a request from the School Council and consultation with pupils, we are pleased to announce a Bring a Toy Afternoon on Tuesday 1st July.

What can children bring?

Pupils may bring one toy from the following categories:

  • Mechanical toys
  • Cuddly toys
  • Fidget toys
  • Dolls
  • Games
  • Collectable cards

Important Guidelines:

  • No swapping of toys is allowed.
  • Please do not send expensive, electronic, or activity- based toys (e.g. roller skates, scooters, pogo sticks).
  • Toys are brought in at your own risk.
  • Ensure the toy is sent in a labelled carrier bag to help prevent loss.

Pupils who are unable to bring in a toy can play with toys that we have in school.

Thank you for your support in making this a fun and safe event for all!

Ooh La La!

Year 5 had an unforgettable day as they travelled to Boulogne and back - all in one day! It was a jam-packed adventure filled with discovery, culture, and fun.

The highlight of the trip was a visit to Europe’s biggest aquarium, where the children were amazed by the incredible marine life. They also enjoyed a delicious lunch at a traditional French restaurant and even had time to relax and play on the most idyllic beach—a perfect way to end a magical day.

A huge merci beaucoup to Mademoiselle Papas, Monsieur Sudbury and Mademoiselle Burnett for driving, and to Mademoiselle Church, Mademoiselle Cockburn, and Mademoiselle Phelan for their hard work throughout the day.

Sport Leaders

On Tuesday we hosted a sports festival for some Year 2 children from our school but also St. Johns N20. This festival was extra special as it was organised and ran by our very own PE Councillors and Sports Leaders. The children have been working hard behind the scenes for several weeks, planning and preparing physical activity sessions for the children. They practised delivering their activities with enthusiasm and care, making sure everything ran smoothly on the day. The event was a carousel-style activity where children from Year 2 and St.Johns had the opportunity to participate in five stations. We were incredibly impressed with the way the children took on the responsibility of leading the activities. They demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, speaking clearly and confidently to encourage the younger children. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and they really stepped into their roles as teachers. Even the adults from the other school who joined us commented on how well the PE Councillors communicated and motivated the children.

Well done to Mollie, Liam, Lola, Zachary, Mikolaj, Daniella, Dotty, Skye, Lewis, Nadine, Zainab and Elijah.

Nursery and KFE

Despite it being a little shorter, Nursery and KFE have had a busy and fun week! We have now released our butterflies, and we are hoping that they will be starting their life cycle all over again by laying some tiny eggs on leaves.

We have been learning all about different modes of transport, reading our core story The Train Ride and singing a song called We are Getting on the Train whilst role playing passengers, train conductors and ticket collectors. The children have been practising counting beyond 10 and used their cutting skills to add passengers to their 'counting bus'. The weather has kept lovely and warm, so children are thoroughly enjoying the outdoor area, developing their gross motor skills. The highlight of this week has been, of course, our Sports Day! The children had an egg and spoon race and exhibited amazing listening skills and sportsmanship!

This week's phonics sound is 'u' for 'umbrella'. Have a great weekend!

Reception

Reception have had a wonderful week discussing and preparing and competing in sports day! They were brilliant and we have been learning about ordinal numbers and using 1st, 2nd and 3rd to describe different things we see. We have also been preparing for our graduation show and will be sending home lines to learn next week!

To all of Reception for a superb sports day this week!

Year 1

Year 1 enjoyed creating their own digital traditional stories this week in Computing using 2Create a story. You can have a go at home using their Purple Mash logins (on the backs of their reading diaries). In Maths, we are beginning our unit on time. We can say the days of the week, and talk about what day it was yesterday and tomorrow. We also know the months of the year. I wonder if they know when their birthdays are and in what season?

This week in English, we read and acted out The Balloon Tree by Phoebe Gilman. The pupils used the language from the text and excellent expression as they sequenced the story.

Our achievement awards go to Mayia and Leslie for their excellent work in Computing!

achievement

To all of Year One for beautiful sportsmanship during the Sports Day

Year 2

After visiting the seaside, we have started our Geography unit. We have looked at atlases and maps to locate seaside towns and discussed the terms 'human and physical geography'. In Maths, we have discussed how many hours are in a day and minutes within an hour. In English, we wrote a setting description of an island. It was lovely to see their creative language. Also, Year 2 were superb athletes on Thursday and represented their house colours with pride!

Homework

Maths- pages 103 and 104. 105 is optional.

This week's awards go to Eva for her hard work in Maths linked to time and Denat for his excellent contributions in our foundation subjects. Well done both of you!

Kingfisher 1

This week in maths, we have been learning all about measuring! The children have had great fun exploring the lengths and heights of different objects with a ruler and using the correct language such as centimetres (cm).

In English this week we read Goodbye Mog. The children were able to confidently retell the story verbally and used Colourful Semantics to help them build well-structured sentences.

We are also very proud of all the children for their enthusiastic participation in our Sports Day activities– they showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and spirit!

achievement

This week’s award goes to Ruvin for his fantastic work in maths, measuring accurately and using the correct terms.

Well done!!

Year 3

This week the children have been working extremely hard with their story writing in English. Using inference and their knowledge from what they have previously read of the class text- Leonora Bolt: Secret Inventor- they wrote their own imaginative chapter which included extraordinary inventions such as Shrink rays, De-atomisers and phase technology! In Maths we have been learning angles as a turn and the different types and sizes of angles. We are even identifying types of angles in shapes. We also started our Geography Unit on mountains and hills which involved using our atlas and digital mapping schools. The wonderful week culminated with a fantastic sports day and well earned time on a bouncy castle!

Homework

Maths: pages 111 - 113

Comprehension: pages 45 -47

Daily reading and TTRS practice

This week's achievement awards go to Jonathan and Arianna C for showing greater focus, independence and quality in their learning.

Year 4

It has been a very busy week in Year 4. In Maths, the children are recapping some areas of learning to secure their understanding. In English, they have looked at a WAGOLL and using their senses for description for their upcoming narrative.

On Tuesday, the children made us very proud with how respectful and well-behaved they were at the Nanak Darbar. The community made us very welcome and answered lots of the children's questions.

In D&T, Year 4 tried many different types of houmous and yogurt based dips where they had to think about the taste, texture, appearance and smell. They were all fantastic and all tried every item. Next week, they will design and make their own houmous or dip in groups.

Homework pages

Maths - pages 122 and 123

Reading - pages 68 and 69

Please practise the songs for Oliver - the songs and lyrics are on teams. If your child is unable to access Teams, it is because their password needs to be 8 characters long and their passwords are generally 6 characters so they need to add hashtags to make it 8 - for example apple4## or top6####.

This week's achievement awards go to Ryan for challenging himself in Maths and Dilan for trying all of the various houmous and dips in D&T. Well done to you both!

Year 5

This week in Maths, the children showed excellent understanding of negative numbers using number lines and games to support their learning.

In English, they wrote excellent balanced arguments about whether Cameron (the main character in Pig Heart Boy) should have had the xenotransplant.

In Art, they began learning about retrofuturism, an art movement from the 1950s and 60s; they're focusing on the Space Race and will be practising different drawing techniques to create their own visions of

Year 6

This week, Year 6 have been full steam ahead with preparations for our production of Oliver! by Lionel Bart. We’ve been working hard to learn our lyrics and rehearse each scene, while our brilliant supporting cast from Years 4 and 5 have been busy learning their roles too. Behind the scenes, we’ve also been designing props, preparing the stage, and creating a programme for the show. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far!

Costume letters have been given to the children :)

Alongside rehearsals, Year 6 also took part in their final Sports Day and what a fantastic event it was! The children showed great resilience and determination throughout, supporting one another and giving each race their all.

Reminder: Year 6 will begin their swimming sessions on Monday 30th June for the next two weeks. Please ensure your child brings the appropriate swimming kit each day.

Homework: Please continue to learn your lines for Oliver! and practise them at home.

This week's achievement awards go to Elia and Elon for their fantastic effort and dedication to their solo performances in Oliver! well done to you both!

Kingfisher 2

This week in Maths we have continued looking at data handling. We have looked at interpreting data on bar charts and reading two-way tables.

This week's award goes to Ethan for settling well into Kingfisher 2 and doing his work. Well done Ethan!

Camp Night Magic

We’re thrilled to share that our Camp Night was a huge success! Over 150 members of our school community came together to enjoy an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and marshmallows.

Families gathered around the BBQ for a delicious feast, sang their hearts out by the campfire, roasted marshmallows under the stars, and even ventured into the forest area for a magical late-night walk.

A huge thank you goes out to Mrs Church, Mrs Craddock, Mrs Stephens, Mr Sudbury, Diane and any family helpers for their incredible effort and dedication in organising such a special event. Your hard work made it all possible!

We’re so grateful to everyone who came and helped make the event so memorable.
