March Week 4

Friday 24th March

London Youth Games

If you didn't know that we were representing Barnet at the London Youth Games, where have you been?!

We have been looking forward to this event for weeks and the girls have been training exceptionally hard. We wish that we could have taken the whole school to watch this spectacular event as the quality of all games played was of a premier league standard!

The girls had a tough start as we had to play three games in a row. However, this didn't phase our girls one bit. We won two games and drew the other placing us top of our group. This led us to playing in the Top 16 which we won on penalties. The girls flew through to the quarter finals and...semi finals!

Before we tell you the result, lets crunch some numbers to really understand what an achievement this is and how this game will go down in Livingstone History.

There are 2115 primary schools in London. We came top of the Barnet Pool which had 30 schools making us the Barnet Champions. This led us to playing against the winners of other London Borough pools which also had a similar number of schools that had to compete against. There were 30 schools at the event on Tuesday battling it out for their school and Borough.

Getting to the semi-final is a brilliant accomplishment and it all came down to penalties. They gave it everything, but Islington saved the last penalty and beat us to the finals. We couldn't be happier with placing third and the girls showed great maturity and were just as thrilled with the result wearing their bronze medals proudly!

Well done to Hattie, Lois, Catherine, Geethesri, Chloe, Katerina, Kaitlin, Diya and Arbel.

Football season is not over yet though... We are still in the John King Cup for the girls and we still have a girls league and a mixed league game on Monday. Come on, Livingstone!

School Uniform

YzXXHokR2iV5GT

Uniform sales from the school office will discontinue when we run out of the current stock as our longtime supplier has gone into liquidation. You will soon be able to purchase our school uniform from Smiths in Cockfosters. We are currently waiting for confirmation from them with a launch date.

Smiths have been very fair in their pricing and have maintained the cost as close as possible to our previous supplier and in addition will offer promotions and discounts throughout the year. They offer an order collection service as well as a choice of delivery. You will be able to choose to have your order delivered to your home or to the school.

Every year families donate good quality items of outgrown uniform and Livingstone will continue to pass these on for a small donation - see Mr Sudbury.

Reminder

0AHs5Uq60uVvsC

Reminder to all parents and carers that pupils should be able to tie their own laces or they should come in with shoes with simple fastenings , such as velcro. If they have difficulty learning the skill, we suggest looking up the 'Loop de Loop' song with SpongeBob as a fun source of inspiration to learn how to master the skill.

Aptitude Test Dates for Year 7 Admissions in September 2024

Year 5 parents/carers who are looking to apply for selective schools should look up the admission criteria as most have exams and assessments for the pupils to sit late in the Spring Term and throughout the Summer Term.

These tests are vital as they provide the basis for the allocation of secondary school places 2024.

Nursery

This week in the nursery we have been reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children have loved the story and enjoyed creating their own observational drawings of the caterpillar as well as cutting out coloured leaves to make beautiful spring flower cards. which has demonstrated their excellent focus and fine motor skills.

Kingfisher Nursery

This week the children have had some exciting visitors, some very small and very hungry caterpillars. A firm favourite book with the children, they have enjoyed retelling the story, developing their understanding of the life-cycle and making some beautiful art.

Reception

This week has been very exciting and full of learning about Spring and life cycles in Reception class. We are extremely lucky to be watching our caterpillars change daily, our hens eggs hatch and we even received some frogspawn to observe too! The children have been inspired and cannot stop drawing, writing and making things for their new animal friends.

Achievement Awards!

Esmae - for some fantastic writing and effort in class this week

Mikey - for being a great scientist and asking brilliant questions

Year 1

We are welcoming spring with open arms in Year 1 science lessons. On our local area walk, we spotted the signs of spring around us: the smell of fresh cut grass, the daffodils and the blossoms growing on trees. We also noticed that the days are getting longer and the nights are getting shorter. The children have been working hard on their maths and phonics assessments this week, and we are impressed with their progress. Well done Year 1!

Achievement awards this week go to Filip and Jack for their excellent spotting of signs of spring.

Year 2

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement. We have read scales to record weight and volume as well as comparing them.

In English, we have been reading 'Traction Man'. We have written in the present tense and looked at using suffix words. Next week, we will be creating our own villain and mission for our super hero, Traction Man.

Our afternoons have been a mixture of Science and Geography lessons. In science, we looked at why hygiene is important. In Geography, we created a map of our local area and went on a local walk to create a tally about all the different modes of transport we spotted.

This week's text took us to India, as we read 'The Tiger Child'. The children enjoyed discussing and describing the story. We compared tigers and cats and thought about similarities and differences.

In Maths we have been working on multiplication and division understanding the difference between equal and not equal and by sharing and grouping apparatus and writing number sentences.

The children also had a great time on their bowling trip this week. An activity which gave them the chance to have lots of fun whilst developing gross motor skills, turn-taking and sportsmanship.

This week's achievement award goes to Sergio for making positive choices all week, well done!

Year 3

This week we started the week with a trip to the British Museum.

On Thursday we had a road safety workshop which was very good. A company came in and put on a show for us all about road safety where we learnt the green cross code. It was really interactive and we learnt an awful lot about keeping safe on the streets when cross the roads.

In the afternoons we have enjoyed creating out own PowerPoints in partners. We have created PowerPoints based on our science topic rocks and soils. We learnt how to insert pictures and how to copy and paste from internet pages onto our own slides.

This week's achievement award goes to all of Year 3 for playing their recorders so well to the whole school in their assembly today. They showed off what they have learnt so far beautifully. We can't wait for their concert next term!

Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have been completing our end of spring term assessments. The children have applied themselves fabulously and have all made great progress. They should be exceptionally proud of their achievements so far. Mrs Craddock and I definitely are!

Our foundation topic this week has been RE. The children have learnt about the sacred texts of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. They have found out why they are important to those followers, how they are treated and studied and the lessons that can be learnt from the stories within them.

This week's achievement goes to the whole of Year 4 for their positive and hard-working attitude. Well done!

Year 5

The children worked very hard in their end-of-term assessments! They showed that they've understood what they've learned this term, and tried their best.

We've also started preparations for our Easter Assembly. Please ensure your child learns their lines over the weekend. We'd love to see as many parents as possible on Thursday 30th to watch the class' performance.

In DT, they have been given a design brief to create a space buggy for a mission to the Moon. They'll use their knowledge of pulleys, wheels and axles to build their buggy next week. They made a start on the wooden frame and used their knowledge from our last DT unit on bridges to make a rigid structure.

Reminder: Brain Boosters is due in on Monday 27th.

In Maths, over the last couple of weeks, we have been focussing on volume and capacity and measuring in millilitres and litres.

We used different containers to explore the concept of ml and l and have been challenged to read increasingly complex scales.

In English last week, the boys finished writing their persuasive letters to Mrs Phelan about the litter and rubbish issue outside the school and even went on a litter pick to do their bit!

This week we also enjoyed a very successful bowling trip to the Hollywood Bowl in Finchley where everyone had a great time, following lots of hard work completing assessments!

This week’s achievement awards goes to George and Nathan.

Nathan had a really good tennis session with Mario recently. He showed the skills of patience and perseverance, trying his best throughout.

George is becoming a fantastic speller. He always tries hard to learn them each week and gets lots of 100% stickers for his tests! He was also a bowling powerhouse!!

Keep it up!

Red Nose Day was a great success and raised £200!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our Red Nose Day Event.

Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 took part in Circus Skills with Mr Sudbury- a man of many talents. Year 3 ,4 5 and 6 played dodgeball against each other and a staff team who had to run through the 'tunnel of fear'.

Finally, the event ended with a Staff vs Pupils Netball Match which ended 7-3 to the staff. We have very talented and very competitive teachers but the pupils showed everyone why they are unbeaten in the league and we are hoping if all goes well in their final matches that they will finish as Barnet champions.

All our thanks go to:

The Livingstone PE Councillors for organising this event with Miss Fairley - Lois, Hattie, Jack D, Sophia, Josh D, Arbel, Elia, Abdullah, Anwen, Ryan D, Dexter and Liana.

Mr Sudbury for taking time out his busy schedule to show off his juggling skills,

Mrs Church for coaching the netball team

Hannah and Ollie at Non- Stop Action for running the event.

Thank you also the all the parents and carers who bought a ticket to watch the match - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
