Letter to Parents

Friday 21st May

Dear Parents / Carers,

Re-opening of school June 1st - Information for all Parents including  Yr 2, Yr 3, Yr 4 and Yr 5 Parents

As I indicated in last Friday’s newsletter, staff have been risk assessing and planning for school to open more widely.

On the basis of our current risk assessments and staff availability our plans for reopening are as follows:

Timetabling

  • Rec, Yr 1 and Yr 6 will be split into two groups of 15 and will attend 2 days a week –
  • Monday & Tuesday or Thursday & Friday
  • Nursery are offering  two morning or afternoon sessions on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
  • Kingfisher 1 and 2 will be returning for the morning sessions on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
  • Each Wednesday the school will be closed for all children, apart from the children of critical workers. This is to enable the school to be cleaned and for staff to prepare teaching and learning resources for pupils that are home learning.
  • Yrs 2, 3, 4 and 5 pupils will continue their learning at home through Home Learning Grids and videos from their class teacher.

Class arrangements

  • There will be up to 15 children in a classroom with the furniture rearranged to allow physical distancing. Each group will be led by a teacher or teaching assistant.
  • The year groups will have a staggered drop-off and pick-up time and a different location for drop-off and pick-up to avoid any congregating of groups of pupils and parents.

Learning

  • The class teacher will continue to plan and resource all lessons to ensure consistency in provision for children.
  • A significant part of the learning will take place outside using our playgrounds and field.
  • The class teacher will provide feedback to all children on their learning when in school.
  • Children will have a daily wellbeing session to support them with their return to school and help alleviate anxiety.

Physical distancing

  • We know that physical distancing for young children is impossible to expect despite our best efforts. Children in the EYFS will be playing in the same small groups when they are in school and will wash their hands regularly.  In the other year groups, each day will begin with reminding the children about how to physically distance in the classroom, playground and field, and maintain good hygiene.
  • All staff will implement strategies to comfort children that do not involve physical touching.
  • Learning will allow physical distancing. This means that children will continue to collaborate and discuss their learning with each other but at a physical distance.
  • Each group will have an allocated time to use one of the playgrounds for playtime.
  • The use of our outdoor spaces will be maximised so pleasebring in sunhats and apply sunscreen
  • The children will be taught and reminded to maintain a distance and avoid touching each other when lining up or playing in the playground.
  • Each group will have an allocated toilet.

Lunchtimes – these will be staggered.

  • Hot school dinners are available for everyone or pupils can chose to bring a packed lunch
  • If we are using the Dining Hall then only one class at a time will be permitted in the Dining Hall
  • Those pupils entitled to free school meals will be provided with a school dinner.
  • We will continue to provide Food packages for those pupils who are learning at home.
  • The play area will be zoned. Children will have time to go outside and play with the group of children that they have been learning with during the day.
  • Groups of children will not be allowed to come together during lunchtimes.

Hygiene

  • Each day will begin with reminding the children about maintaining good hygiene and not touching their faces.
  • We will record their temperature remotely with the register
  •  There will be a daily hand washing routine:
    1. on arrival to the school
    2.  routinely through the day
    3. after using the toilet
    4. after sneezing or coughing into a tissue
    5. before and after playtime
  • We have ordered outdoor sinks for each playground to ensure regular handwashing
  • The children will have their own desk, pencil case and stationery to avoid any sharing of equipment.
  • All soft furnishings, soft toys and toys that are difficult to clean have been removed from the classrooms and the desks have been cleared.
  • Staff will have anti-bacterial wipes and cleaning equipment in the classroom to use as necessary.
  • Classrooms will be cleaned once during the morning, once during the afternoon and after school.
  • All toilets will be cleaned  at regular intervals throughout the day
  • All classrooms will be cleaned thoroughly at the end of each school day and this will be checked.
  • All classrooms will have windows and doors open to allow ventilation
  • All classrooms and spaces will be thoroughly cleaned every Wednesday, ready for the 2nd  cohort.

Health

  • If a pupil requires close medical care, they will be taken to an area safely away from others to the medical room and the staff will wear a mask and gloves (PPE).
  • If a pupil or member of staff displays COVID-19 symptoms, they will go to a safe designated medical space where they will have their temperature checked. The pupil will remain there until the parent arrives to collect them. Parents will be required to have the child tested and they will not be permitted to return unless they have a negative test result.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Although the Department for Education has advised that the use of Personal Protective Equipment is not required, we have PPE available for our staff so they can stay protected.

Other key information

  • Pupils are required to wear school uniform. Please make sure they have washed uniform for every day they attend.
  • With regret, at this time we are not able to offer breakfast or after school club provision.
  • Please try to avoid public transport if possible
  • The children of key worker parents from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 can continue to attend school from Monday through to Friday.

Please note that these arrangements are dependent on updates from the Department for Education. These are ever changing and we may have to adjust all of these provisions for the future.

If you are a key worker and your child is in Yr 2, Yr 3, Yr 4 or Yr 5, if you require a place in the Key Worker Bubble then please email the office@livingstone.barnetmail.net by 3pm on Tuesday 26th May please, stating which days you need.
