Nursery

We've had a lovely week filled with fun and engaging activities inspired by Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle. The children have really enjoyed exploring the story through creative play and art.

This week also marked the official start of autumn! We've been learning all about the changes this season brings. The children particularly loved doing leaf rubbings, observing autumn colours, and getting creative by making bear faces in our crafty corner.

We also kicked off our yoga sessions this week. It's been wonderful to see the children developing their gross motor skills, balance, and coordination through movement and mindful exercises.

We're still welcoming new friends to our class, and it's lovely to see the children making connections and helping each other settle in. We continue to focus on learning the rules and routines of Nursery, helping everyone feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

Kind reminder:If your child’s spare clothes bag has gone home, please ensure it is returned to Nursery the following day. All items should be clearly labelled to avoid them getting lost.

Also, please do not bring your child to Nursery with tights or tight leggings. Loose joggers are preferrable so that children can be more independent in the toilet and staff members can check knees in case of an accident.

Thank you for your continued support! Have a great weekend!

KFE and Bluebirds

This week we have continued to enjoy our autumn themed activities. The children have especially enjoyed the outdoor area where they have been mixing, filling, emptying and transporting lots of materials between our activity areas.

Indoors we have started our Core text for this half term: Brown Bear Brown Bear. This popular book provides us with lots of ways to explore colours, animals and language.

Our sensory story this week has been, 'The Leaf Thief.' Spoiler alert, the leaf thief is just the wind!

Our Makaton Nursery rhyme this week has been Twinkle Twinkle little star. Learn the signs here: https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8DFM1st440

Reception

This week Reception have been continuing to learn new sounds each day with Fred during phonics. We have given each child a green speed sounds book to practice at home, it will be found in their bookbag. We have only learnt sounds up to 'n'. Here is a video about how to help your child learn the Read Write Inc. phonics sounds https://youtu.be/ KUbrJPAt65g

We have been talking about the start of Autumn and enjoying discussions about the changes we can see especially in the pond area this week. We have been using autumn treasure to make pictures too.

If you are going on walks to collect 'autumn treasure' (conkers, leaves, acorns, pinecones etc) we would love to have them for the nature table!

Next week we start talking about families and homes, please do email us or bring in a picture of your child and family for them to share.

Year 1

In Maths, we are continuing to learn about place value. We have written numbers in both numerals and words, represented numbers to 10 in different ways using concrete resources, counted and identified given amounts, and worked on one-to-one correspondence.

In Phonics, we are continuing with the Read Write Inc. scheme. Please check your child’s reading diary to see which sounds they are currently learning.

In Geography, we have discussed where we live and identified both physical and human features. On Thursday, Year 1 really enjoyed our walk to explore the local area and observe what is around us.

Homework

Maths- Pages 7 and 8. Page 9 is optional.

Please only complete the pages mentioned on the newsletter/pages highlighted in the book. Thank you.

This week's achievements go to Rahmah for settling in well and being so positive about Year 1 and Lucas for his hard work and excellent contributions in Geography.

Year 2

This week we have continued with our work on place value in Maths by ordering and comparing 2-digit numbers. In English, we have started our next comprehension module called 'Anansi and the Four Bananas'. In History we have learnt more about the Great Fire of London and made collage images of the houses burning down using tissue paper.

A reminder that next Friday (3rd October), it is an INSET day, so children will receive their new homework and a library book on Thursday 2nd October next week. You are welcome to leave your child's book bag in school overnight on Wednesday or you can take it home as it will have your child's new reading book and reading diary inside it - just please make sure to bring it back in the following day. Many thanks.

Homework (due Wednesday 1st October)

Maths - pages 13 and 14. Optional extra - page 15.

The first certificate is awarded to Leo for his enthusiastic attitude towards his history learning about the Great Fire of London.

The second certificate is awarded to Leslie for her focus and hard work on creating a Great Fire of London collage.

Kingfisher 1

In Maths, the children have been exploring the concept of subtraction. They used a variety of resources, including number lines, to develop their understanding that when we subtract, the number becomes smaller.

In English, we continued our shopping topic. The children thoroughly enjoyed role-playing in our very own Kingfisher shop and created their own shopping lists to support their writing skills.

A highlight of the week was our visit to Sainsbury's. The children behaved exceptionally well, selected their own items, and confidently paid for them at the self-service tills.

achievement

This week the award goes to Stylianos for his good typing skills.

Well done Stylianos!

Year 3

Year 3 continue to be enthusiastic about our Stone Age topic. This week we focused on comparing how early humans lived and survived over the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. In Maths, we enjoyed several practical activities focusing on comparing and ordering three-digit numbers. Perhaps they can teach you how to play ‘Nice or Nasty?’ at home. All you need is a dice, a pencil and a scrap piece of paper. We looked at a WAGOLL in our English lessons and the children discussed how to use noun phrases, conjunctions and the past tense. We look forward to applying this in our writing our narrative next week.

A gentle reminder to please bring in your child’s library and Accelerated Reading books on Fridays so they can be changed. All other homework comes in on a Wednesday and goes home on a Friday.

Homework (due Wednesday 1st October):

Year 3 Maths Practice Journal: p.10-12 (page 13 is optional)

Year 3 SPaG p. 13 noun phrases

Achievement awards go to Bobby and Sienna for their excellent contributions to our history lessons.

Year 4

It has been another busy week in Year 4. In Maths, the children have been using concrete resources to estimate on a number line and flexible partitioning and learning about Roman numerals. In English, the children have been using colourful semantics to join main clauses with conjunctions, developing direct speech and planning their writing.

In computing, the children were very surprised that each lesson didn’t include using a computer. They learnt about computer networks and how to make them the most efficient they can be before becoming programme designers where they designed their own games on Purple Mash. We were amazed with the sophisticated games they designed. Ask your child to show you theirs – I’m sure you will be equally impressed.

Homework – Due in by Wednesday 1st October

Maths – pages 10 and 11

English – SPaG – pages 8 and 9

Times Table sheet – 3s and 6s.

Please read with your child and encourage them to go onto Times Table Rockstars, daily. Thank you!

Year 5

This week in Maths, the children ordered, compared and rounded 6-digit numbers.

In English, they practised the grammar they'll be using to write narratives next week: direct speech, expanded noun phrases and using subordinate clauses to start sentences in more interesting ways.

They've been geographers in the afternoon learning about rivers. They learned key features of rivers and used maps to explore how land is used around the River Thames and the River Seine.

Reminder: if you haven't already done so, please give permission and payment for our Lee Valley trip on Thursday - thank you.

A big thank you to Jesse’s mother in Year 1 and Humza’s mother in Reception class for already volunteering — we really appreciate your support!
