March

Friday 29th March

On Thursday 21st March, it was World Down Syndrome Day! We celebrated people who have Down Syndrome and embraced their differences. During assembly, everyone got to learn about Down Syndrome with 18 facts that we didn’t know about people with this disability. They are heroes – heroes that don’t wear capes but heroes who are capable of making anyone smile whenever they are feeling down, heroes that love to joke around and always look on the bright side of any situation. Even though these people may have a ‘disability’ they can lead successful lives – most probably better than others. Sometimes it’s better to be different than to be normal. By Sophia (Y6)

On Friday the 15th of March, it was Red Nose Day and it was a great success. There were 12 different types of noses and they depicted different personalities. This year, every time a Comic Relief themed item was purchased, 65p from it went towards the charity. Although it was raining, our school still did a bake sale to raise money, and, in my opinion, the cakes were delicious. This year the nose designs were amazing and at Livingstone we got to make Red Nose Day themed stress balls. This year the world raised £63,938,072 to help all of the people who might not be as lucky enough to get what they need. By Jim (5S)

Y5 Tag Rugby Festival- Thursday 28th March

Children from Y5 attended a tag rugby festival at Allianz Park and they represented our school superbly. We were at a disadvantage as we were the only school that had Year 5 players and we had to quickly adapt our rugby league rules to suit rugby union. However, this did not stop Livingstone. The children persevered and with great determination, managed to win our last two games. Not only did we manage to win a few games, we were lucky enough to meet players from the England rugby team! We met Jackson Wray and Maro Itoje. Squad Roxy, Heidi, Daisy, Zoe, Ryley, Adam, Jack C, Alfie, Omar, Harry L and Scarlett. We Day

‘We day’ is an event that takes place at Wembley every year and famous singers and people with disabilities or health problems that affect their lives come together to perform songs and tell stories of their lives. Unlike a normal show, you have to earn your tickets by helping the society. This year, our school council enjoyed getting to learn about how people came face to face with their issues and overcome them. By Kiera (5S)

On Wednesday 13th March, the members of Year 6 performed a dance to the song ‘Friend Like Me’ from the world-wide known movie Aladdin, at the Arts Depot for the Dance Festival. Performing on stage is always a nerve-racking experience for everyone, even for the most advanced of performers. We were able to see many of the other schools rehearse for their dances, and there were some amazing talents shown from the schools in Barnet. Livingstone did extremely well; we were all satisfied with our performance and the audience thought so too. We would like to thank Diane, our chief supervisor, and Lauren, our dance teacher for putting this amazing routine together: we look forward to next year’s performance from our year fives! New Tag Rugby Kit

Mr and Mrs Donald, Daisy and Jack’s parents created a brand new tag rugby kit for Livingstone. Everyone was extremely happy for their generous offer. The tag rugby team are very excited to wear the kit for their next game and are so very pleased. We have been needing a new kit for our tag rugby team and could not be more amazed with what the Donald’s have given to the school. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Donald for giving us this fabulous gift. With high hopes, the Livingstone netball team set off on the 21st of March to play a match against Brunswick Park .We played very well and the final result was 8-6 to us! In the first quarter we scored 3 goals, but so did Brunswick… In the second quarter we scored 2 goals and our opposition scored 1; on the 3rd quarter, we scored 3, and Brunswick none, but in the 4th quarter they scored 2 but we didn’t.

Y5/6 Boys Football vs All Saints

On Wednesday, boys from years 5 and 6 played in their last league match. Both teams started the game with high levels of confidence and determination. All Saints managed to score two goals which drove Livingstone into a great comeback scoring one goal by Ryley and narrowly missing another. The game ended 2-1 to All Saints but Livingstone stayed positive and demonstrated excellent sporting ethos. Well done to Ryley, Harry.L, Kiah, Malachi, Adam, JJ, Baheer, Mo and Charli

On Monday 18th March, ‘Greek Day’ was celebrated and enjoyed by Year 3. It is an annual celebration of the Greek culture and mythology; it consists of a range of Greek related tasks organised by Miss Papas and the Year 3 members of staff. Speaking to Miss Papas on her outlook of the day, she quoted, “I thought that Greek Day was a really successful day as there were a variety of activities including Greek Language Lessons, Greek Mythology (learning about Greek Gods and Goddesses), a quiz about the Ancient Greeks, Greek dancing and cooking and even food tasting! Year 3 were really well behaved and were surprisingly motivated and focused. They displayed excellent teamwork and they thoroughly enjoyed the day.” Well done to all of Year 3 and to the staff; we hope that they had a very eventful day. By Nicholas Yr6

On Thursday 7th March, it was World Book Day and throughout the week the pupils of Livingstone did activities based on books: buddy reading, book swap, teachers going to different classes to read their favourite books and, finally, dressing up as book characters. It was wonderful to watch the older children reading to the younger ones and vice versa! There were plenty of fabulous costumes worn to school on the Thursday; the teachers had to choose two people to win a certificate and they all struggled because of how amazing all of the costumes were. Thank you to Miss Smith and Mrs Armstrong for organizing the whole week of activities, we enjoyed everything! By Sophia (Y6)
