Year Six autumn curriculum overview
September 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope you had a relaxing, fun-filled summer holiday and we’re pleased to welcome you and your child back to their final year at Livingstone! While we have a lot of work to do and topics to cover in preparation for SATs in May, we look forward to helping your child progress their learning, build their confidence and establish essential skills ready for secondary school. Your support at home is critical in helping us achieve success!
Homework
The children will be given homework every day and will be expected to hand this in the next morning. Homework is extremely important to consolidate your child’s learning and give them more independence and responsibility. Your child should complete all homework in their navy homework book independently and should be working for 20 minutes. If for any reason your child cannot complete this homework, please send them in the next day with a note.
Reading
It is important that your child reads every day for at least 20 minutes and that they fill in their reading diary when they’ve done so; we want as many Year 6s’ as possible to be rewarded with free books! We visit the library every Friday afternoon so that these books can be exchanged. Please encourage your child to read a variety of genres and texts as this will help introduce them to new language and styles of writing, further developing their writing skills.
Mathletics
Each child has their own Mathletics username and password that allows them to access Mathletics at home. Please encourage your child to practice their mathematics to develop their skills (and gain points).
PE kits
We have PE sessions on Wednesday so your child will need to bring in their full PE kit, including track-suit bottoms for the cold weather. However, it is important for your child to have a PE kit in school at all times so that we can take advantage of any additional opportunities that may arise.
