Music
Music
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Music at Livingstone
At Livingstone we enjoy celebrating music together. Our curriculum is designed to provide maximum enjoyment of music, offering a variety of styles of music for children to experience. The children receive music lessons which provide them with an experience of an understanding about the core elements of music: Performing, composing, inter related dimensions of music, listening and the history of music.
During lessons, we allow children the opportunity to express themselves creatively using instruments and composing together. All our compositions are based around a style or piece of music that is listened to and discussed for our own creations. All our lessons include elements of singing, listening and the inter related dimensions of music including understanding music notation, note values and dynamics. We celebrate blues and jazz, hip hop, and a variety of other styles of music.
At Livingstone, we like to celebrate our children’s voices with regular school events. We have weekly singing assemblies for KS1 & KS2 where children learn and rehearse new songs. Annually, Year 2 take part in the Barnet Infant Music Festival, they learn and perform a variety of songs with other schools and perform their own piece either a song or composition.
Our school Choir, that is open to all children from Year 4, also take part each year in the KS2 Barnet Music Festival, learning new songs and performing our own piece. Our school choir meet weekly, and rehearse a variety of fun and challenging music, performing songs at assemblies and school events.
In year 3 the children have weekly lessons learning the recorder with a specialist music teacher from BEATs. This gives them the experience of playing an instruments, playing together as an ensemble and developing and understanding for reading notation. Children are then able to continue with their recorder learning as they progress through KS2.
Peripatetic Lessons
