Nursery
What a fantastic week we have had in Nursery! Our trip to Lewis of London Ice Cream Farm was a huge success, and the children had a wonderful time exploring everything the farm had to offer. They enjoyed role-playing as farmers, riding tractors, pretending to milk cows, making "ice cream" with sand, and digging in the sandy play area. The highlight of the day was, of course, enjoying a delicious ice cream! The children represented our Nursery beautifully and had lots of fun creating special memories together.
In phonics this week, we have been learning the sounds /v/ for vulture and /j/ for Jack-in-the-Box. The children were especially excited to play with a Peter Rabbit-themed Jack- in-the-Box, which helped reinforce our learning in a fun and engaging way.
We have also been singing lots of farm songs and learning about different farm animals, the sounds they make, and the names of their babies.
Talking Homework
This week, ask your child to tell you about their favourite part of our visit to the ice cream farm. Can they remember which animals they saw? What sounds do those animals make? Can they name any baby animals, such as a calf, lamb, piglet or chick?
To support our phonics learning, go on a sound hunt together and see if you can find things beginning with v (van, vest, vegetables, vase) and j (jam, jelly, jacket, juice). Encourage your child to say the initial sound clearly before saying the whole word.
Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture
Another busy week in Kingfisher Early Years, the main event was our trip to Lewis of London, the ice cream farm. The children enjoyed seeing the real animals as well playing with the toy ones in Moo Land! All the children did very well, we were very proud of them!
The phonics sounds for this week were: 'v' for vulture and 'j' or jack in the box.
In bluebirds we have started a new topic, the seaside. The children have been completing activities around the theme throughout the week, they especially enjoyed making beautiful beach huts from 2D shapes.
We kept cool again this week in our beautiful pond area and saw lots of different bugs and fish.
Reception
This week in Reception, we have continued using Colourful Semantics to support our writing, and the children have had lots of fun creating their own silly sentences! In Maths, we have been exploring simple bar graphs, using them to work out how many of each pirate item there were. We have also been busy practising for our class assembly, and the children are becoming more confident with each rehearsal.
This week, the children have also started their transition to Year 1 by spending playtimes on the Key Stage 1 playground. They have all settled in brilliantly and are really enjoying this exciting step towards September.

Awards this week go to:
Ariano for always coming to school with a smile, showing a positive attitude and trying his best in everything he does.
Edlir for trying hard to use his phonics to write his own sentences independently.
Year 1
In Maths, we have been learning about time. We have used clocks to show times to the nearest hour and half past the hour. The children have also practised writing times and drawing clock faces. The best way to learn to tell the time is by using real clocks, so please keep practising at home whenever you can. In English, we have created our own versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, with each child choosing their own animal family for the story. We have now finished our Computing unit. The children have loved learning about programming and using apps to create stories and artwork.
As we come to the end of Year 1, there will be no more homework, and we will not be handing out any new reading books. Please keep the White Rose book at home and complete any unfinished pages over the summer as revision before Year 2.
Please bring in Brain Boosters on Monday so we can showcase everyone's work. Thank you!
This week's achievements go to Thea for her hard work in Phonics and focusing on her handwriting and Harvey for his enthusiasm and computing skills this week.
Year 2
This week we have had a very exciting time in Year 2. We started the week with a great sports day where everyone tried their best and showed great sportsmanship. We also had our class trip to the seaside at Shoeburyness, where we had plenty of fun paddling in the sea and building sandcastles. The children all had such a lovely time and have created some unforgettable memories. In addition, we have continued with our learning about Statistics in Maths by creating and interpreting tables and block diagrams. In English we have written a recount about our highlights from our seaside trip. In the afternoons, we have continued our RE unit and we have explored the meaning of religious artefacts.
Homework:
Maths - Statistics pages 107 and 108 (optional extra page 109)
English Grammar - see photocopied sheets on Adjectives and Adverbs
The achievement awards this week go to Vinny and Eden for representing the school fantastically on our trip to the seaside.
Kingfisher 1
This week in English, we began our exciting summer pirate topic. The children enjoyed role-playing and dressing up as pirates. They wrote messages in bottles and designed their own bottles and treasure chests, showing lots of creativity and imagination.
In Maths, we have been learning about capacity. The children took part in a range of practical activities, using and recalling key vocabulary such as full, empty, half full, nearly empty, and nearly full. They then progressed to comparing containers by identifying which held more and which held less.

This week's award goes to King for completing his sticker chart.
Well done King!
Year 3
Year 3 have had another fantastic week of learning! In Maths, the children have been exploring the properties of polygons, learning how to identify and compare shapes by looking at their parallel sides and angles. They have shown great enthusiasm and confidence when explaining their mathematical thinking.
In English, we have been revisiting some of the key building blocks of writing. The children have been identifying common nouns, using adventurous adjectives to add detail, and learning how to punctuate direct speech correctly. To make our learning even more exciting, all of our activities have been linked to the FIFA World Cup being hosted in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
The World Cup theme has certainly captured everyone's imagination! Mr Madle and Mrs Segal have thoroughly enjoyed watching some of the tournament highlights, and the children have loved discussing the matches and using them as inspiration for their writing. It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm for both football and learning!
This week's awards go to Arshin and Benji for their achievement and progress in maths this year.
Year 4
This week, Year 4 have been completing end of year assessments and have made us proud with the progress they have made. In English, the children have been thinking about what it would it would be like to be in a fire fiends lair and writing interesting descriptions. The children also had a very exciting video call with their pen pals in France.
Year 4 have also been busy practising for the Year 6 end of year show 'Bugsy' and are excited for you to come and see the show, next week.
Please ensure your child's costume is in school by Monday in time for the dress rehearsal. Please look on Arbor for a copy of the letter as to what your child needs, if you are unsure.
Homework
There is no more homework for the remaining weeks of Year 4.
Their homework books will be coming home, feel free to complete them in your own time, if you wish.
Thank you for the support you've given in regards to homework and times tables, this year.
This week's achievement award goes to Daisy and Alex for their fantastic singing and dancing in the show rehearsals. Well done to you both!
Year 5
This week, the children completed their end-of-year assessments and have impressed me and Mr T with their fantastic progress and effort.
We have been doing a mixture of things:
- Finishing off PSHE on value for money and spending wisely
- Using their texture plates to print collagraph backgrounds for Art, ready to draw on next week
- Polishing our dance for Bugsy Malone
Homework due by Monday 6th July
1.) Bring in your show costume in a labelled bag: plain white sleeveless vest, blue PE shorts, white socks, black trainers (no other colour is permitted)
2.) Learn the words to the 4 main songs for Bugsy Malone off-by-heart. There is a folder in the Y5 Team with lyrics, backing tracks and vocal guides.
Reminders for Y5 parents
- School shoes must be plain black and socks must be black, white or grey. Some pupils are choosing to wear brightly- coloured ones that are not uniform. Please send your child in with correct footwear.
- Children should enter the classroom via the playground door. If this isn't possible, please drop them off at the School Office where a member of staff will escort them to where they need to be. Y5 parents should not be walking their children through the Atrium.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in both these matters.
This week's awards go to Tiannah and Oliver, both for their progress in Maths. Well done, you two!
Year 6
This week in Year 6, we have continued rehearsing for Bugsy Malone in preparation for next week's show week. The children have worked exceptionally hard and have shown great enthusiasm and commitment throughout the rehearsals.
As if they weren't busy enough, we have also completed our first week of swimming lessons. The children have impressed us with their positive attitudes, confidence, and determination in the pool.
This week's achievement awards go to Rafay and Rayyan for their positive attitude in swimming. Well done!
Kingfisher 2
This week in Maths we have been learning how to read analogue time and will continue practising our skills next week. We have also completed our end of year assessments and are very proud of the progress everyone has made.
In English, we have been looking at the structure and layout of instructions and went to visit our Livingstone pets to help inspire our writing. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from Enzo's pet mantis!
Thank you for all your effort in completing homework throughout the year. We will now take a break from setting homework until after the Summer.
