World Book Day!

Friday 7th March

World Book Day is always a fabulous event with the children in their comfy pyjamas and creative character costumes! This year certainly didn't disappoint! The children enjoyed buddy reading with different classes; learning performance poetry; dressing-up; swapping books in the Mystery Book Swap; and strutting their stuff down the catwalk in assembly yesterday. Thank you to Mrs Cockburn and Mrs Segal for organising a fun-filled week, and to Mrs Armstrong (our wonderful librarian) for always promoting a love of reading.

Reminder: please use your book token (redeemable in supermarkets and many shops) to get a free World Book Day book, or money off your book purchase. https:// www.worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/

Staff News

We would like to share some lovely news: Mrs Mills will be going on maternity leave at the end of this term as she prepares to welcome her new arrival. We are all incredibly excited for her and wish her the very best during this special time.

During her absence, Mrs Feshias, who previously taught in Reception, will be taking over the class. To ensure a smooth transition, we have arranged several transition sessions before Mrs Mills’ departure so that the pupils are well supported and Mrs Feshias is well prepared.

Please join us in sending our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Mrs Mills!

Unfortunately, unlike Mrs Mills—who will be returning next year—we will be losing a member of staff who will not be coming back, other than to visit. After several years of working at Livingstone and leading Music, Mrs Margetts will be leaving us at the end of this term to teach in a school closer to home.

She has taught so many pupils during her time at Livingstone, and we are very grateful for all the work she has done for the school, especially through her leadership of Music. She will be greatly missed by pupils, staff, and families alike, and we wish her every success in her new role.

Enterprise and Cinema Afternoon

EplWeMiBa6wewg

Enterprise and Cinema Afternoon was an action‑packed finish to the end of the half term. We had lots of amazing products for sale, and the pupils raised money for their class as well as for charity.

Enterprise Products

  • Nursery: Biscuits
  • Reception: Dojo Monsters
  • Year 1: Playdough Craft
  • Year 2: Fairy Art
  • Year 3: Bead Craft
  • Year 4: Wind Chimes
  • Year 5: Candles
  • Year 6: Craft Packs

In total, the classes made just over £200 profit and raised more than £150 for charity.

Cinema Afternoon raised £300, and after expenses, a further £150 will also be donated to charity.

The school council will ask the pupils to choose which charities to support in the next few weeks and the money will be sent after the Easter Holidays.

A huge thank‑you to all the staff who worked so hard to ensure that the products were made in time for the sale during such a busy period. The pupils did an amazing job— showing creativity, teamwork, and real entrepreneurial flair. Hopefully, they will use this experience as a springboard for future business ventures. Look out, Mr Lord Sugar!

Nursery

This week in Nursery our learning focused on People Who Help Us. The children really enjoyed our fire station role-play area, where they pretended to be firefighters responding to emergencies. In DT, the children created emergency vehicles using junk modelling, practising their cutting and sticking skills as they made fire engines. During our activities, the children also practised counting to 5 and 10 while “putting out fires” using water droplets.

We also had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day. The children looked fantastic in their creative costumes and loved showing them off during our assembly. They also enjoyed sharing stories with buddies from Y3 and Y5 during our Buddy Reading sessions.

Talking Homework

Please talk with your child about people who help us in our community. You might discuss:

-Who helps us if there is a fire.

-Who helps us when we feel unwell.

-What different emergency vehicles do.

Encourage your child to draw a picture of a person who helps us and be ready to talk about it next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture

We have enjoyed another busy week in Kingfisher and Bluebirds. The nicer weather has given us a chance to enjoy the outdoor areas more. It has been nice to welcome in Spring and notice the differences in our environment. We all enjoyed taking part in World Book Day and there were many lovely costumes and pyjamas!

We would like to welcome our new children who have started this week and last week, they are settling in very well.

In Kingfisher we have started the topic of people who help us and this week has been all about fire fighters. Our Makaton song of the week is: 5 little firemen and you can sign along here, https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=x_I2ysM0w0g

In Bluebirds our core text has been We're going on a bear hunt,' and we have themed many activities around this. In Fun with Food the children made bear biscuits and had their own teddy bears picnic.

The sensory story this week for both classes was Molly's Jolly Brolly.

Reception

Reception have had another very exciting week! It has been jam packed with events including Wonky Bars and a very interesting Hand Hygiene workshop. The children were very engaged and had great knowledge of why it is important to wash their hands. They even had the opportunity to see 'germs' on their hands under the light to make sure they were washing properly. We have loved World Book Day activities including dressing up and buddy reading with different classes. We have continued our reading of 'Farmer Duck' and impressed with different activities such as writing and cutting skills inspired by the story. The children are really progressing with their phonics and writing skills now and we encourage you to support them at home to continue making excellent progress.

On Monday, we are so excited to be welcoming in 5 eggs! We don't know what animal will be hatching, so talk to your children daily for updates and keep their curiosity going by discussing it with them.

Year 1

In Maths this week, we have been focusing on subtraction. The children have practised subtracting numbers by drawing dienes as well as using mental maths strategies. We have also been learning how to write addition and subtraction number sentences to match pictures. In English, we finished writing our poems all about Spring. Poetry is our theme this term and, to celebrate World Book Day, we will be performing the poem Alligator Pie next week. Your child has been given a copy of the poem to practise at home. In our foundation learning, we have begun our D.T topic on Sliders and Levers. The children explored different products that use these mechanisms and created their own moving parts. We also had an oral hygiene workshop delivered by our community nurses to find out how to keep our teeth clean and why this is important. We can't forget to mention how wonderful Year 1 looked fabulous for World Book Day and the children had a lot of fun reading with Year 5 and Year 3. .

Well done Roman!

Year 3

Well done on completing your 2-week swimming course! We hope you will continue swimming regularly so that you don't lose this life-skill. In maths this week we learnt about calculating perimeter and began learning fractions with a practical lesson. Ms. Burnett and I were so impressed with the children's insights into and questions about worldviews on how the world began in our R.E. Lessons. We are learning the poem The Dragon Who Ate Our School during Guided Reading and look forward to performing it to the school very soon! We had a blast on World Book Day as well.

It has been a week of excellent learning in Year 4. In Maths, the children have continued with fractions. They made their own fraction walls to find equivalent fractions. In English, the children have been analysing the different characters in our class book There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom before writing a diary entry as Bradley.

In D&T, the torches have been made and we were very impressed with each group. They really thought about the intended user (Mr Sudbury) by taking into account his likes and dislikes in the design and ensuring it worked with the electrical circuit and switch they made.

Sporting Fixtures

Last Friday, the girls football team played their semi-final match against Sacred Heart. The team have played brilliantly all year and despite the importance of the game, they did not let the pressure affect them. They maintained a strong lead throughout the match, dominating the pitch while also keeping their defence solid. We are delighted to announce that the team are through to the final, with the date and opposition to be confirmed soon. Well done to

On Monday, our mixed league team played against St. Catherines in a semi-final match for the Cup. It was another high-pressure game and the children showed great confidence, keeping the score at 0–0 throughout the first half. The team have been fantastic all year, playing many matches and making excellent progress, and reaching the semi-final is a wonderful achievement as it has been several years since one of our mixed league teams reached this stage of the competition. Despite their strong efforts and determination, the match finished 3–0 to the opposing team. Although the result did not go our way, the children showed great resilience and continued to give their best until the final whistle.

Our girls football team have had an incredible week, competing in not just one but two semi-final matches! On Thursday we faced Christ Church in what was probably our toughest game yet. Both teams gave it their all and the match remained a tense 0–0 right up until the final five minutes. The girls showed fantastic teamwork and determination and, with minutes to spare, Dotty, Elsie and Daniella scored. The team went on to secure an amazing 3–0 victory, sending us through to yet another final! We are incredibly proud of all the children at Livingstone. This fantastic achievement is another moment to add to our school’s sporting history. Well done to the whole team!
