February Week 2
Friday 13th February
Cross Country
Selected children proudly represented our school at the recent cross-country competition. They have been training hard to build their stamina in preparation for the long- distance run, and their dedication was clear to see. Cross country requires great resilience and determination due to its challenging nature, and our children rose to the occasion brilliantly. We were very pleased to see a few newcomers taking part this term, and we are very proud of everyone who competed. We even had Lola bring back a bronze medal, as well as some children placing in the top 10 out of 25 competitors. Well done to Elsie, Dotty, Anwen, Marianna, Sienna, Lola, Kevin, Ryan, George, Phoebe, Rosie, Liam, Ahmet and Milo.
Happy Lunar New Year
Wishing all our families celebrating next week a very Happy Lunar New Year 2026!
Nursery
In Nursery this week has been extremely busy and full of fun learning!
We finished our topic about Traditional Tales. Getting inspiration from Goldilocks' oats we talked about grains. The children learned that flour is made from wheat, which is also a grain, and we had a turn at grinding wheat to make our very own flour. The children were so excited to see how the grains of wheat turned into powder!
We then used our flour to make pizza dough and created our own delicious margrita pizzas. The children enjoyed spreading sauce and choosing their toppings. It was a fantastic hands-on cooking experience.
Continuing our busy cooking week, we baked and decorated more than 80 gingerbread men for our enterprise project. The children worked so hard, and we are very proud to say that we made enough money to cover our costs and donate the rest to charity. What amazing little business people!
As it was Safer Internet Day, we also talked about AI assistants such as Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. We discussed what they can do (like tell us the weather or share facts) and what they cannot do (such as cook our dinner or give us a hug!). The children had some wonderful ideas and questions.
Half-Term Talking Homework Suggestion:
Please spend some time cooking or baking together. Talk about the ingredients you are using, where they come from, and what happens when they are mixed or heated. You might even like to take a photo or draw a picture of what you make to share with us when we return!
Thank you for your continued support! We wish everyone a restful half term and look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 23rd.
Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture
This week in Kingfisher Nursery, we have started to find out about the lunar New Year. The children have enjoyed exploring the sensory tray and learning about the animals that represent the different signs of the zodiac. In Bluebirds we continued with our text Jack and the Beanstalk. The children enjoyed making breakfast bars and exploring fruit and vegetable printing in Fun with Food sessions. Thee. Enjoy your halftime holiday and we look forward to seeing you in spring two!
Reception
Reception have had a very busy half term! We have continued learning all about police officers and how they help us. This week we have enjoyed getting ready for our 'enterprise' that took place today. The children have had such a great time making their 'dojo monsters' and even designed posters to advertise them to the rest of the school.
Please continue to support the children in their reading at home over the half term. We are so proud of their progress, keep up the hard work!
Have a lovely half term break.

This week in Maths, we have been learning all about position, direction and movement. The children have been using positional language such as left and right and describing where objects are using words like above and below. They have also been giving and following direction instructions.
The children enjoyed using Bee-Bots, programming them to make half turns and full turns as they navigated around different routes.
In English, we have been reading The Gingerbread Man. The children had great fun role-playing the story and used colourful semantics to help them build short, clear sentences.
To finish the week, the children even baked their very own gingerbread men – a very exciting (and delicious!) way to bring the story to life.
This week's award goes to Levi great work in maths and programming Bee-Bots to make turns.

Year 3 had a fabulous Tuesday learning all about Ancient Egypt from an Egyptologist. They explored growing up in Ancient Egypt by looking at the culture, clothing, makeup, food, dancing, music, games and education. We also learnt how to translate hieroglyphics and write Egyptian numbers. The children were fascinated by the story of Ka and Meryt, the gods and goddesses as well as their importance to daily life and the afterlife. After lunch we focused on mummification, the famous pharaohs and their pyramids. I wonder if we have some budding archaeologists in Year 3!

They have worked incredibly hard to capture emotion, atmosphere and tension.
Alongside this, the children have been busy in the Kids’ Kitchen, preparing soups using seasonal ingredients as part of our D&T unit.
