March Week 2

Friday 14th March

Goodbye Ms Knappett

Amy Knappett is leaving Livingstone to start a new job, and her last day will be next Friday. Amy’s departure marks the end of an era for our school. Just like her mother Janie before, Amy has worked at Livingstone for many years and contributed to the amazing outcomes of many of our pupils. She has been an excellent team member and supportive of all her colleagues who had the pleasure of working with her.

Incredibly, she is one of the few people who has circumnavigated the world in the trip of a lifetime with her family and now she embarks on a new adventure of working with older pupils in a new school.

A huge well done to Year 6 for their fantastic performance of 'Food, Glorious Food!' from the musical 'Oliver!' at the Barnet Dance Festival. They were incredible from start to finish and made us all immensely proud. Thank you to everyone who came along to watch and support, and a special thank you to Miss Wilkinson from Non Stop Action, Mr Boucon, Mrs Armstrong, Miss Fairley and Diane for their dedication and hard work!

There are more under the year 6 section and the film of the performance will be available to download in the next couple of weeks.

Red Nose Day Friday 21st March

dm7CAlScGsgEf8

Don't forget, we are raising money for Red Nose Day by having a sponsored Spelling Bee next Friday.

Each class have been given an adapted list of words to spell. Pupils who want to take part can learn the words and attempt to spell some or all of them in a mini spelling test.

If your child is not a natural speller and they would like to take part in a different way, they can copy the words in their best handwriting.

Another way you can take part in this event is to wear the colour red or any Red Nose merchandise and make a donation.

A letter like this one has been sent home on Monday. Parents/Carers, if you would like to sponsor the number of words, please do. The pupils have one week to practise, then we will see what happens on the day!

The children should bring their sponsorship forms on Friday 21st and results will be sent home on Red Nose Day. Any money that is raised needs to come in before Friday 4th April.

Nursery and KFE

Continuing the fun activities for World Book Day, the children had the chance to do 'buddy reading' with other children from Year 3 and Year 1 this week.

We are also continuing our topic about people who help us in the community and this week we have been learning about doctors and nurses. We read our key story 'Ness the Nurse', who is a nurse with a kind face that looks after the children at her school. We have used our fine motor skills to open plasters and help our pets heal from scratches and bumps, looked at X-rays on our light board and we role-played taking our animals to the vet surgery. In Maths, we have been focusing on counting to 10 and taking away 1 each time, just like Ness the Nurse does when she gives away her plasters to the children.

Talking homework:

Who helps you at home? Talk about how parents, siblings, and other family members help each other at home.

Who helps you at school? Discuss the roles of teachers, school nurses, and other staff members.

Who helps you in your community? Explore the roles of community helpers like firefighters, police officers, and post office services.

After discussing, you can ask you can ask your child to share what they've learned or even create a thank-you card for a helper they appreciate. 😊

Reception

We have loved listening to our key story again this week - Farmer Duck. We watched a video of Martin Waddell telling us all about how he wrote it and looked at other stories that we know by the same author. We have sequenced, retold and wrote about the story too and learnt that all ducks start life as an egg by reading 'Its Quacking Time!' We were so excited to find out that we have our very own eggs arriving on Tuesday and have been exploring what animals lay eggs so that we can have a guess as to what animals will hatch! We are really looking forward to the start of Spring - what changes can you notice in the world around you this weekend?

Year 1

This week Year 1 explored 2Paint and 2Beat on Purple Mash during our Computing lessons. They can now login independently and create their own digital pictures as well as musical pieces. Well done to those of you who have had a go at home as well! We began our topic of measuring in Maths and the pupils enjoyed measuring objects around the classroom using non-standard units. We are also learning how to measure in cm using a ruler. In English, we read and acted out Beegu. We also wrote sentences explaining how to be a good friend. We are well into Set 2 and 3 sounds in our phonics lessons, so please continue to consolidate this learning at home by reading their Read Write Inc books and sounds.

Our achievement awards go to Safiya and King for their excellent musical compositions on Purple Mash. Well done you two!

Year 2

Year 2 have done incredible work linked to fractions in Maths. We have identified unit and non-unit fractions, counted in fractions and continued to find fractions of amounts (thirds and quarters). In English, children wrote sentences with adverbs, adjectives and learnt the continuous present tense. They have been very enthusiastic about our Transport topic in History. We have looked at how buses, cars and trains have changed over time. We have a PSHE lesson every Friday, and our theme has been 'friendship'.

This week's award goes to Leslie for her hard work in phonics.

Well done Leslie!

Year 3

This week Year 3 have been working hard creating 'revolting' recipes for our class book inspired by Roald Dahl book characters. Do you love chocolate? Or maybe you enjoy having egg with your worm spaghetti. If that peaks your interest, you will enjoy reading the fantastic recipes and clear instructions we have written.

In Art we are exploring 3D sculptures and abstract art. Many thanks to all the parents/carers that were able to donate cardboard boxes, etc. The children have been learning and applying techniques such as folding, twisting, rolling, slotting, flaps and concertina to join and make freestanding pieces of art. Next week we will be applying the skills we have been learning this week on a larger scale, so if you have any empty cardboard boxes, your donations will be greatly appreciated.

To celebrate British Science we watched a video about amazing adaptations and conducted our own research on how animals adapt to survive in their environments.

Girls Semi-final Football Match

Everyone has worked incredibly hard at football club starting from September with Mr Thomas and Mr Madle. We are proud of everyone who attends an after-school club as they have all progressed with their sheer determination and dedication to improve. Everyone's hard efforts has paid off as we were in a semi-final game in the Year 5 and 6 Girls Central League. Thursday was a tense game as our opposing team (Monken Hadley) played brilliantly. There were some amazing shots made by Elsie that unfortunately didn't go in and Monken Hadley's defence was testing our resilience but our girls fought incredibly hard and never gave up. Even when we had to go extra-time, which is always very nerving for any player, the girls gave it everything. It was a brilliant game to watch especially when Dotty scored the winning goal! The girls did it! They have made it into the Central League Final. Congratulations, girls. Well done to Xhizela, Elsie, Dotty, Nadine, Anastasia, Elia, Muthara, Anwen and Daniella. Thank you to Miss Fairley for organising all the matches with the schools in the borough.

The final is on Tuesday 18th April at 4pm if you would like to show your support at Compton Powerleague.

Come on, Livingstone!
