World Book Day - 6th March 2025

Reading and the wonder of books and stories is celebrated often at Livingstone, but next week for World Book Day we have some special fun-filled activities planned.

On Thursday 6th March, the children can come to school dressed in pyjamas or as a book character - the more creative the better!

Our book swap theme is 'mystery books'. Please can you child wrap up a book they no longer read in A3 paper and decorate it with key words. For example, for Harry Potter you could write 'magic', 'friendship', 'fantasy' and 'witches and wizards'.

The children will also be buddy reading with different classes, which they always enjoy!

Finally, your child will be bringing home a book token today, which they can use to either...

exchange for a free World Book Day book

get £1 off any book of their choice

We highly encourage all parents to use this voucher to bring more books into homes.

Cross Country Competition

scpJyMXLhzLEVg

Some children from Years 4 to 6 competed in a Cross Country Competition on Wednesday. They showed great determination and resilience as they tackled the challenging course. Despite the muddy terrain and the heavy downpour, every runner gave their best effort, with many achieving personal bests and some even securing top finishing places! Not many adults would have been able to run in these conditions, so we are very proud of their efforts in completing the mile course. The children represented our school with pride. Well done to Ellis, Gia Khang, Dotty, Elsie, Stefi, Ryan, Ravi, Ryan, Muthara and Anastasia.

Reception

Reception have had a great first week back after the holiday. They have been enthusiastic for their learning and trying hard all week. They have been earning marbles for their jar for their effort and great team work! We have been continuing the learning about people who help us, talking about fire fighters, police, dentists, teachers and paramedics. We discussed the words 'past' 'present' and 'future' and looked at police cars from the past and discussed how they have changed.

The class are so excited to be learning some performance poetry for World Book Day. We have some fantastic musicians that enjoy singing new songs and rhymes and this week the class were so keen to learn the names of new instruments and make some noise!

Year 1

Welcome back! Year 1 are so enthusiastic about our D&T (Design and Technology) topic of sliders and levers. We spent the week exploring sliders and levers in pop-up books, practicing the skills to make these mechanisms and then designing our own ones to make next week! In maths, we are focusing on place value of numbers up to 50. The children are building, drawing and writing numbers using their knowledge of tens and ones. We reinvented our own poems inspired by Shel Silverstein’s If the World Was Crazy and also practiced performing Alligator Pie just in time for World Book Day. See if your child can recite the poem with the actions and expression. Some of the children are in new phonics groups and it is great to see them making progress. Please check their reading diaries to see what sounds they are learning.

Also, we welcome Miss Cooper to Year 1 who will be completing her teaching training with us until May.

Our achievement awards go to Rose and Eden for their enthusiasm and brilliant designs for their sliders and levers. Well done you two!
