March Week 3

Friday 20th March

Red Nose Day Fun!

It was wonderful to see so many red noses, bright outfits and Red Nose Day accessories around school today as we came together to raise money for such a fantastic cause. The enthusiasm from the children and staff made the day very bright.

We also enjoyed a lively assembly where children shared their favourite jokes. Some were very funny, and the room was filled with laughter! It was lovely to see the children’s confidence and joy as they took part.

Thank you to those of you who did make a £1 donation. We appreciate your kindness, generosity, and continued support. If you forgot to make a donation, you can still pay via the Arbor School Shop or in cash at the school office.

Sporting Competitions

LYt0C_9pJ2xYMI

This year has been a fantastic one for football at our school. Every child who has represented the school competitively or attended club throughout the year has shown great commitment and dedication to the team. On Wednesday, our Mixed League Football Team played against Trent Primary School to determine second place in the league. Our final game for the Mixed League team certainly did not disappoint. The children demonstrated excellent stamina, which helped them maintain possession and control of the game, alongside showcasing impressive skill throughout. This led to a brilliant 4–0 victory to finish the season on a high. Well done to Skye, Leon, Stefi, Kevin, Mikolaj, Edward, Dotty, Anwen and Elsie.

This week, our children took part in their first T1 rugby competition. They have been training exceptionally hard with Mr Boucon, learning new rules and developing their strategic play and their efforts truly paid off. The children had lots of fun playing matches against other schools and were able to showcase their hard work and progress. Our team worked brilliantly together, staying in formation and demonstrating great teamwork, which led to them dominating their games. We won every game! What an achievement for our new team. Well done to Daniella, Xhizela, Anwen, Elsie, Holly, Amelia, Dotty, Soroiyan, Zak and Kevin.

Nursery

This week has been very busy and full of exciting learning experiences! The children enjoyed watching the ducklings from Reception swimming in the paddling pool and talked about how they were once inside eggs before hatching. This led to some great discussions about life cycles and growing.

We have also been learning about how to look after animals and what they need to survive, including water, air, food, and shelter. The children shared their own ideas and experiences of caring for pets. In literacy, we have continued reading Ness the Nurse, which the children are really enjoying. This has linked nicely to our role play, where the children have been acting as vets, doctors, and nurses in our vet surgery. They showed wonderful imagination and care while looking after their 'patients'.

In Maths, the children have been practising counting from 1–5 and 1–10 using one-to-one correspondence. Some children have also started making marks that resemble numbers. We also had fun in the kitchen making our nutritious 'HULK muffins' using spinach. The children loved mixing the ingredients together and learning how to measure using spoons and cups.

A highlight of the week was our very special visitor - a real firefighter (Violet’s Dad)! He spoke to the children about what it is like to be a firefighter, and they had the opportunity to see and try some real equipment from the London Fire Brigade. The children were very curious and asked lots of interesting questions.

Talking Homework

Here are some ideas for conversations you can have together:

  • Where do ducklings come from? What happens before they hatch?
  • What do animals need to survive? How can we look after pets?
  • What does a firefighter do? How do they help us?
  • Can your child retell parts of Ness the Nurse? Who are the characters?
  • Practise counting objects at home from 1–5 and 1–10.

Cooking TogetherTalk about measuring ingredients and mixing when helping in the kitchen.

Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture

This week in Kingfisher we have continued with our theme of people who help us. We have been exploring vets as well as doctors and nurses. the children have learnt lots of new vocabulary and practiced taking care of babies and pets.

In Bluebirds we have started a new text, The Rhyming Rabbit. The children have been doing lots of fun activities around this. In 'Fun with Food' they made delicious carrot cakes and rabbit faces.

Both classes have enjoyed the sensory story: Rosie's Hat. They have also been creating Spring themed art and loved meeting the ducklings in Reception!

Thank you for taking part in Red Nose Day.

Reception

Reception have had another exciting week! We have continued learning all about ducklings, and have enjoyed reading ‘fiction’ and ‘non-fiction’ books about ducks. We loved observing the ducklings and noticed how much they grew and changed since hatching. We have been learning about the different body parts of a duck and talked about how they will continue to change as they grow into adults.

The children have been doing lots of independent writing, inspired by the ducklings which we are so proud of. We have also been learning about ‘doubles’ in maths and using positional language correctly.

We hope you all have a lovely restful weekend ready for our last week of term next week!

The children have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones and exploring different ways to represent the same number. In English, the children completed their own versions of Croc and Bird, which were fantastic and showcased progress in writing. We have now begun reading Beegu, and the children thoroughly enjoyed acting out parts of the story and creating a story map to support their retelling next week. In our foundation learning, we have started our R.E topic, where we have been learning about the Christian creation story and sharing our own thoughts and beliefs about the world.

In the afternoons, we have finished our science unit with a great activity exploring the question: How do birds build their nests? We built our own nests using clothes pegs as our beaks. We have also started our Geography topic about transport. In addition, we had a great laugh sharing our Red Nose Day jokes to each other.

Geography Walk

Next week, on Thursday 26th March, we are planning on walking to New Barnet Station as part of our Geography unit on 'Transport'. On this day, please ensure pupils bring in a coat in case it is cold. We plan to be back well before lunch time so pick up and drop off will be as normal.
