June Week 4
Friday 26th June
In order to help reduce queuing on the day of our Summer BBQ Party, we are making some of the Summer Fair purchases available online. These can be pre-paid via Arbor school shop or purchased using cash in the school office during the coming week.
We hope that by enabling parents/carers to make purchases in advance, activities can be accessed more quickly as they will be pre-paid.
The following items will be available for pre-payment from Monday:
- Adult Entry Ticket: £1.00 (children enter free)
- Bouncy Castle: £5.00 per child (this includes a session during the school day and unlimited turns after school)
- Raffle Tickets: £5.00 per book — prizes include a Mega Summer Food Hamper, Drinks Hamper, Toy Hamper, Giant Football Bean Bag, a Kitchen Back-Splash worth over £120 and family activities...
Thank you for your continued support!
Next week, we are reliant on the support of parents and carers for donations and help with setting up the Summer Fair. Please let Georgina or Lina know if you are able to help in any way, as we depend on your support for its success.
Non-Uniform Day
Thank you to all parents and carers who kindly contributed donations for the Summer Fair on both non-uniform days— we really appreciate your support.
We rely on donations and support for these events; without your help, we would not be able to provide the extra opportunities that make our school so special.
As we are still in need of more donations, we have arranged an additional Non-Uniform Day on Friday 3rd July
This will be an “Anything Donation Day” – we would greatly appreciate contributions such as bottles, gifts, sweets, toys, cakes or even £1.00. Thank you for your continued support!
Camp Night
The family camp night on the school field was a wonderful success and a lovely opportunity for families to come together and enjoy the school community. It was fantastic to see so many children and parents taking part, creating such a warm and friendly atmosphere
A very special thank you must go to Mrs Church and Mrs Craddock for organising such a brilliant event. Their hard work, time and dedication made the evening so enjoyable for all. We are also incredibly grateful for all the help they were given by all the parents/carers to make the camp night such a success!
Nursery
Despite the hot weather this week, the children have enjoyed taking part in all the activities across the nursery. To prepare for our visit to the ice-cream farm on Tuesday, we recreated a Farmers' Market role-play area where the children have been busy buying and selling fruit and vegetables, developing their communication and mathematical skills through play. To cool down, the children made frozen strawberry milkshake which they enjoyed for their snack. Outdoors, our new mud kitchen is finally open and already proving very popular! The children have loved making mud pies, mixing ingredients, sharing resources and engaging in imaginative play with their friends. Our focus sound this week have been /h/ for horse and /r/ for robot.
Talking Homework
This week, encourage your child to tell you about a time they visited a shop or market. What did they buy? What fruits and vegetables can they name? You could also talk about their favourite ice cream flavour and where milk comes from. To support our phonics learning, see if your child can spot objects beginning with h (horse, hat, house) or r (rat, rose) at home or when out and about.
Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture
Well what a hot one it was, well done to the children for managing to keep cool most of the time. We made the most of cooling water and ice play and the pond area which offer a lovely shady learning environment.
Kingfisher Early Years were continuing to explore all different modes of transport, with a focus on cars and trains. They enjoyed counting the vehicles, parking, sorting and washing them. Their sensory story this week was, Let's go out on a train ride, which can be found here, https://www.bbc.co.uk/ bitesize/topics/znxrdnb/articles/zgvydnb the children enjoyed watching supported by objects and visuals.
The phonics sound for this week was 'h' for horse.
Bluebirds continued with their farm theme and made salt dough farm animals. They also continued the sensory story of The Little Red Hen. The children kneaded their dough and made lots of different things with it.
Reception
This week in Reception, the children have enjoyed using Colourful Semantics to support their independent writing, helping them to build and write simple sentences with increasing confidence. In Maths, they were introduced to coordinates, and the children had great fun following coordinate instructions to add features to their own treasure maps. Outdoors, our new mud kitchen has been a huge hit, with the children showing fantastic imagination, teamwork and creativity in their role play. Despite the very hot weather this week, the children have coped brilliantly and continued to work hard in all of their learning.
We have really enjoyed sharing the baby photos that have been sent in and talking about how much the children have grown and changed over the years. Thank you to everyone who has already emailed a photo. If you haven't had chance to send one in yet, please do so as soon as possible so that your child can join in with this special activity.
We have also continued rehearsing for our class assembly. The children are becoming more familiar with their lines, and we would really appreciate your continued support in practising them at home using big, clear voices to help build their confidence.

This week's awards go to:
Joshua for coming to school every day with a smile, a positive attitude and always being ready to learn.
Samuel for independently choosing to challenge himself by writing his own sentences about his chosen picture.
Well done boys!
Year 1
Year 1 have been incredible this week, especially considering the heat! In Maths, we compared two-digit numbers and found one more and one less. In English, we read the classic tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, as well as a version with a twist: Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs. We acted out the story and used Colourful Semantics to build sentences. The afternoons have been a bit mix and matched this week but we have started our Computing unit, focusing on digital literacy. We used Book Creator and Purple Mash to create stories and artwork. They worked collaboratively to produce some excellent work. We will continue to use these apps next week.
Maths homework.
Please see the next highlighted pages for the place value section.
This week's certificates go to Thomas.G for his excellent story telling language and Jesse for his creative computing skills.
Year 2
Year 2 have made us all very proud with how they have coped in the heat this week! They have worked hard and maintained positive attitudes. In Maths, we have completed our reasoning and arithmetic assessments, and we have started our new unit on 'Statistics' by learning about tally charts. In English, we have been publishing our instructions in our neatest handwriting. In RE, we have begun our new unit which is all based on the big question, 'How do we know?'. The children brought in objects that are special to them and we asked each other questions about these objects. We also then explored special objects (artefacts) from Christianity.
A gentle reminder that objects from home such as bracelets, toys, blue-tac and other accessories should not be brought into school. Many thanks for your support with this.

To celebrate the end of our author study, the children also enjoyed exploring a variety of other Mog books by Judith Kerr, sharing their favourite characters and discussing the stories together.
This weeks award goes to Levi for completing his sticker chart. Well done Levi!
Year 3
This week we completed our Geography topic on hills and mountains. The children are more skilled at using atlases and identifying human and physical features of famous mountains in the UK and around the world. The children thought carefully about our academic year together and typed up their reflections for their reports, which I'm sure you are looking forward to reading very soon. In maths, we have been consolidating our 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 times tables as well as understanding angles and lines.

This week in Maths, the children converted between different measurements of length and mass, and learned how to calculate volume.
In English, they edited and published their formal arguments based on Pig Heart Boy, and are now gearing up for their final piece of Y5 writing: writing the ending of the book. They analysed the example and planned their own endings where Cam finally meets his baby sibling.
In Art, the children planned a futuristic piece called '2126: A Vision of the Future' and made textured printing plates to use to print their backgrounds.

Year 6

The children have applied themselves brilliantly and have worked hard to learn their lines quickly in preparation for beginning our acting rehearsals next week.
In RE, we have begun exploring the concept of reality through Plato's Allegory of the Cave. The children have been discussing how different people can have different perspectives and considering what influences our understanding of the world around us.
