July Week 2
Staffing 2026/27
Friday 10th July
For the first time in eight years, we have appointed two new teachers, Mr Jenner and Ms Young, which will be an exciting new experience for us as a school.
This year, two of our longest-serving members of staff, Mrs Vann and Mrs James, will be leaving the school.
Mrs Vann has been a familiar and welcoming presence in the front office, providing support to families and staff, as well as working with pupils across the school. Mrs James has worked with generations of nursery pupils, making a lasting and positive impact on the earliest experiences of many of our children – both most recently in Kingfisher class. On behalf of the Governing Body and the Headteacher, we extend our sincere thanks for their many years of dedicated service. Their care, commitment, and support have made a significant difference to children and families within our school community. They will be greatly missed by staff and pupils alike. We will be losing not only valued colleagues, but also dear friends. We know you will join us in wishing them every happiness and success in the future.
We also say goodbye to Ms Chrysostomou and thank her for her hard work and valuable contribution during her time at Kingfisher. We wish her success in pursuing a career in teaching. Ms Porada, as you return to Poland, thank you for everything you have done. It has been a pleasure working with you. We wish you all the very best of luck!
We would like to thank Lee Shea for his invaluable contribution to the Governing Body over many years. Throughout his time with the school, Lee has provided excellent guidance and support, particularly as Chair of the Finance and Premises Committee. He has also carried key responsibilities for Safeguarding, SEND, and Health and Safety, helping to ensure the wellbeing and success of our school community .We are grateful for his dedication, commitment, and service, and we wish him all the very best for the future. He will be greatly missed.
Finally, we thank Ada Shum for her knowledge and support as a governing body member and Chair of the Welfare Committee. Her expertise in GDPR was instrumental in ensuring the school’s compliance with complex legislation. She has been a strong and committed supporter of the school and its ethos.
Summer Fair
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Summer Fair such a success. We had a fantastic turnout of parents, carers, and friends of Livingstone, raising over £3,000 for our school.
We are incredibly grateful to all our staff and volunteers for giving their time, and to everyone who supported the event through their generous donations. Your commitment and enthusiasm helped create a wonderful day for our school community.
Special thanks go to our Chairs, Lina and Georgina for their continued support, leadership, and hard work in helping to make the event possible.
Next week, we will be sending out a PTA letter outlining our expenditure and future plans following the recent AGM.

Nursery
What a week it has been in Nursery!
This week, we were very excited to welcome the Barnet Fire Brigade to our school. The children had an unforgettable experience exploring the fire engine, climbing aboard and sitting inside just like real firefighters. They had the opportunity to try on some of the firefighters' protective equipment and even use the long fire hose to spray water across the fields, imagining they were putting out a real fire!
The excitement didn't stop there! During our visit, the firefighters received a call to attend a real emergency. We watched as they quickly got back into the fire engine and dashed off to help save the day. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to see first-hand how firefighters help to keep our community safe.
In Phonics this week, we learnt the sounds /y/ for yak and / z/ for zebra. The children have enjoyed practising recognising the sounds, saying the rhymes and spotting words that begin with these letters.

Kingfisher Early Years & Nurture
This week we have been being pirates and exploring the high seas as well as under the sea!
There was also the extremely exciting visit of the local fire brigade in their big fire engine on Tuesday, the children loved climbing in the fire engine and controlling the hose. I think there may be some future fire fighters among us.
The phonics sounds this week were: 'y' for yak and 'z' for zip.
Whilst it has been a bit hot to be cooking in Bluebirds we still enjoyed fun with food, they made cheese scones and starfish sandwiches.

Reception
This week has been a very special one in Reception! We are incredibly proud of the children for their amazing Reception Graduation performance. They all sang, spoke and performed with such confidence. Thank you to everyone who came along to support them and celebrate this special milestone.
The children have also enjoyed meeting their new Year 1 teaching team and spending some time in their new classroom. They all embraced the experience brilliantly and are already looking forward to the exciting adventure ahead.
Despite another week of very warm weather, the children have coped exceptionally well and have continued to work hard while making the most of their final days together in Reception.
As we head into our final week together, I would just like to say what a pleasure it has been to teach the class this term. It has been lovely getting to know each and every one of them, and I am so proud of all they have achieved. I am looking forward to enjoying one last special week together before they begin their exciting Year 1 adventure.

Reception class, for their outstanding performance. We are so proud of the confidence, enthusiasm, and teamwork they showed. They worked incredibly hard to learn their lines and songs, and their amazing performance made us all smile. Well done, Reception!
Ella, For always showing kindness and care to everyone around her and being a thoughtful friend to those in need. Well done, Ella!
Year 1
Another hot week, and the children have worked incredibly hard throughout. In Maths, we have been learning about money, focusing on pounds and pence. In English, our focus has been on developing neat handwriting and using punctuation accurately. We have also started our new R.E. topic, How do we know? We discussed objects that are special to us and explored what is special to some Christians and why. The highlight of our week was a fun visit from our local Fire Brigade. We had an informative session about how to stay safe in the event of a fire and learned about the important work firefighters do. Of course, the children's favourite part was getting to climb aboard the fire engine and have a go at using the fire hose!
Mrs Sehgal, Miss Gordon and I just want to say thank you for a wonderful year. We are incredibly proud of all the children. They have been a fabulous class to teach and they have made immense progress academically, socially and personally. Well done, Year 1! One week to go! Please bring in a big bag on Thursday as children will be taking home their books. Thank you!
It is a whole class award this week as they are all super stars!
Year 2
This week in Maths, Year 2 have been learning how to draw and interpret pictograms. In English, we have been working through our latest Read, Write, Inc. Comprehension booklet all about teeth. We have also finished off our latest RE unit, thinking how people might see things in different ways. In the afternoon, the children have worked brilliantly during DT lessons: we have been learning about how to make healthy fruit and vegetable kebabs!
The first achievement award goes to Esra for her excellent focus, lovely manners and positive attitude. The second achievement award goes to Royce for his fantastic explanations and hard work in Maths.
Kingfisher 1
This week in Maths, the children explored finding quarters and thirds of shapes, developing their understanding of fractions through practical activities.
In English, we continued our pirate theme. The children used colourful semantics to describe a pirate and create detailed character descriptions.
We also had a wonderful trip to Aldenham Country Park. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing and feeding the animals and had great fun exploring the adventure playground. It was a fantastic day, and the children represented the school brilliantly.
This weeks awards goes to Leslie and Riley for completing their sticker charts. Well done!
Year 3
Year 3 began the week with a trip to Victoria Park to celebrate our fantastic year together. Ms. Burnett and I are so proud of the children and their progress, and it was lovely to have that time to just relax and enjoy a local treat! This week we finished our Science Unit on Light. The children can talk about light sources, reflection and shadows. We enjoyed interpreting bar charts and pictograms in Maths as well. Please finish the homework books, continue reading and practising your times tables over the summer in preparation for Year 4. Please also bring in a large bag for the children to take home their books.
This week's achievements go to Yashvi, Asiya and Naz. They have been absolutely brilliant at Football Club. They always listen carefully, work hard and show a fantastic attitude in every session.
Mr Madle is especially proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork. In fact, they've all secretly told him that they dream of playing for Tottenham Hotspur when they're older – and with their dedication and positive attitude, they're certainly on the right track! ⚽👏🏆
Year 4
This week, Year 4 have completed their last long write for the year and we’re proud of the progress they have all made. They have worked hard, this year and it has shown in their last pieces. In Science, the children have been investigating ‘Living things and their Habitats’.
Rehearsals have been completed and we really hope you enjoy the show! There are two more shows on Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening. On Tuesday, please bring your children back to school at 5:30pm for their last performance.
As this is our last Year 4 message, we would like to say thank you for your support this year. We have enjoyed teaching and getting to know your children and wish you a lovely summer break.

Year 5
This week the children have been hard at work rehearsing and practising their songs and dance for the KS2 show - those of you who attended yesterday's performance will surely agree that their hard work paid off!
Science and English have been the focus this week. The children drafted and edited their Pig Heart Boy narratives, ready to publish on Monday.
In Science, they learned about the human life cycle and the changes that humans go through to old age, including puberty.
On Monday, please send your child in with a large bag or a backpack that they can leave at school. Books from this year will be coming home on Tuesday.
As this is our last teacher-written newsletter of the year, Mr Thomas and I want to take this opportunity to say well done to all the children for their hard work all year and thank you parents and carers for your dedication and support. We've really enjoyed teaching your children and seeing their confidence and individual personalities blossom, ready for their final year at Livingstone. We're sure the last week will be a fun one before setting them free for the Summer Holidays!
This week's awards go to Dilan for his growing confidence and excellent dancing in Bugsy Malone, and to George for his use of show not tell in his narrative writing. Well done, boys!
Year 6
This week in Year 6 has been all about swimming and Bugsy Malone!
The children's progress in swimming has been amazing. Nearly the whole class managed to swim 500m and around a third of the class even reached the incredible milestone of 1km - What an achievement!
The first performance of Bugsy Malone was a huge success! The children were absolutely fantastic and should be so proud of themselves. All of their hard work, rehearsals and dedication really paid off, and they put on an amazing show. Now it's on to the grand finale on Tuesday – we can't wait!

Kingfisher 2
This week in Maths we have continued to practise our skills in reading the time. We have been looking at analogue clocks and are getting more confident in reading to the quarter hour and some to the nearest 5 minutes.
In English, we have written instructions on how to look after pets. We enjoyed discussing our own pets and explaining what they need.
Thank you for another wonderful year. We are extremely proud of everything the children have achieved. Only one more week to go!
This week's award goes to Dilan for brilliant performing in the show. Well done Dilan!
Cricket League
Livingstone's first cricket league has now come to an end, and we couldn't be prouder of the children. They have represented the school brilliantly throughout the competition, showing excellent sportsmanship, alongside some fantastic cricketing skills. We played four matches in total and narrowly missed out on a place in the finals, finishing second in our group by just five runs. Considering these were our first ever competitive cricket matches, this is a fantastic achievement. A huge well done to all the children who have attended Cricket League throughout the year and thank you to Mr Fisher for his great coaching!
