Holidays in School Time
I have been asked by the local authority to send this reminder to Parents that rules on holidays in term -time are still in force and the law has not changed. Barnet’s Education Welfare Team will continue to issue fixed-penalty notices (FPNs) to parents who take children out of school without leave when schools and academies request them.
The Education Welfare Team visits some family homes when it appears that children have been taken out of school before the end of the summer term. Where parents tell us that their children are ill, an Education Welfare Officer would expect to find those children being cared for at home. If this is not the case, parents should expect to receive FPNs once their children are back in schools, unless they can explain their circumstances.
The arguments about holidays are sometimes in the news and individual stories can create misleading pictures. Parents can best support their children and their school by abiding by the rules. Education is not free: it is paid for by taxpayers, including teachers, parents and people without children. Headteachers are required to apply rules firmly and fairly and are held to account by government. It is therefore much appreciated if all parents act responsibly and plan holidays and family visits when school is closed.
On Wednesday 18th 10 children from year 5 and 6 took part in the North London Borough tag rugby finals at Allianz Park. 16 teams from the best schools in the borough took part in this event and the competition was incredibly tough. Despite this, our 10 boys and girls did fantastically well comfortably beating our first 2 opponents whilst scoring 9 tries. Our next game was a much closer encounter and on a different day we would have seen victory, however, we narrowly lost 10-11. After that our heads started to drop as we lost our next 2 games but only narrowly. With a bit more determination in defence we could have found ourselves in the semi-finals but this was still an amazing accomplishment for our school and more importantly our children. Our player of the tournament (and top try scorer) goes to Emmanuel.
Team: Y6 - Emmanuel, Charlie, Tyler, Ozkan, Emmy, Unique Y5 - Daniel B, Bobby, Christiana, Esjena. Well done all!
Fair-Trade posters are due in on Monday 23rd May. The winning poster from each class will win a Fair-Trade chocolate bar.
Forest school will take place on Friday 24th June. There will be a station available to donate Fair-Trade products to our local homeless charity. A text will be sent out nearer the time.
Trent Park -There's a public consultation this weekend at the West Lodge Park Hotel (4 Ferny Hill, Hadley Wood, Barnet, EN4 0PZ) about the developments proposed for Trent Park Mansion and its grounds:
Friday 13th May – 2pm - 7pm (John Evelyn Suite)
Saturday 14th May – 10am - 3pm (Lancaster Suite)
Sunday 15th May – 10am - 3pm (John Evelyn Suite)
The developers are also discussing with local groups how much of the Trent Park Mansion may be set aside for a National World War Two museum; there is a public meeting organised by the Save Trent Park campaign at 7pm on Thursday 16th June at Christ Church Cockfosters where several speakers will explain the historical importance of the Mansion.
